Re: 2009 Free Agents
That would not upset me too much because we would be getting younger at that position. On the other hand it doens't do much for the whole picture on the offensive line. We still have questions at RG and RT. We would still need to make at least one more move for a T and move Jansen inside. I know that I am stating the obvious but...

Re: 2009 Free Agents
I think one thing we should remember is the history of monster deals...
dockery 7 year 49mill -> dumped in two years champ 2billion -> making insane money on one of the leagues worst defenses (And pass defenses). arch/lloyd -> yeah, us too, go figure kearse/etc etc etc lots more, but there seems to be an awful high tendency for the highest paid FAs (that change teams) to end up as wasted money... and because of our cap situation, haynesworth is the all or nothing gamble (whereas, in tampa, they have 50mill after his signing, so its not either/or with them (ie EITHER haynesworth fixes all our problems (offense too) OR it's a mistake to choose him over OL/CB/DE/etc)). if browns coming that means that either hall or haynesworth aren't. we could do dock/brown/willis (OL), crowell (LB), hall or foxworth (CB), nugent (K -> this wont happen) or a punter, then draft a DE keep our DTs, and go OL or LB in the 3rd... we'll see, but honestly, it's safer (much less likely to end up with a bad outcome) short and long term to diversify since we've got a lot of obvious holes. |

I concur! But, espn repoted that Brown and his agent are looking for a huge deal, more specifically to be the highest paid interior lineman in the league. I don't have a link considering I am one of three people left in the US that still have a dial up connection.

Re: 2009 Free Agents
After midnight....I hope we bypass Brown to!
REDSKINS EXPECTED TO BID ON BROWN Posted by Aaron Wilson on February 26, 2009, 9:14 p.m. The Washington Redskins intend to go after Baltimore Ravens free agent center Jason Brown after midnight when the free agency signing period officially begins unless they re-sign left guard Pete Kendall, according to Adam Caplan of Scout.com. Per Caplan, Brown could be paid at a level approaching top guard money. That would mean an annual average compensation of $8 million. The Miami Dolphins, who have been looking to improve at center over starter Samson Satele, and the Buffalo Bills are expected to pursue Brown, too. According to the article, the St. Louis Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to bypass Brown. The Minnesota Vikings are another possibility if Matt Birk isn’t re-signed.

Re: 2009 Free Agents
well, 6/48 with 20mill bonus gets brown here at 7mill in 2009 as a straight deal (in compliance with end of cap rules) with no weird accounting tricks.
i'd prefer 6yr/40mill with 20mill SB though. |

Re: 2009 Free Agents
I'm sorry, but if you're complaining about us (possibly) picking up Jason Brown, you're an idiot. This guy is young and talented, he can play guard or center, he will add youth to the line. He's suited for a power running team and is pretty good in pass protection. I say let's sign him, bring him at guard, and let's draft a RT. If Dock comes cheap, sign him too, giving us three offensive lineman under the age of 30 (Brown, Dock, Rook). After so much b!tching and whining about Albert Haynesworth, when the team looks for a good and talented player for the offensive line (you know, that part of the team that broke down and contributed a lot to our 2-6 decline).
That being said, I think the team should not go after Albert Haynesworth if they look to sign Brown. Bring in Canty for lesser value, bring in some LB depth through the draft. Oh well, that's my humble opinion. Fire away at the criticism.

Re: 2009 Free Agents
First in...? 12:01
This would appear from at least the outside IMO a deal that will get done, we shall see..? And I like this move if it happens. CANTY TO BE THE FIRST TO VISIT THE ‘SKINS? Posted by Mike Florio on February 26, 2009, 10:17 p.m. At a time when many are assuming that Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth or Ravens center Jason Brown will be the first free agents to visit Redskins Park when the doors fly open at 12:01 a.m. EST, we’re hearing indications that the first visitor will actually be Cowboys defensive end Chris Canty. Canty has been a defensive end in the 3-4 attack that the Cowboys employ. The Washington Post reported on Thursday that the ‘Skins are interested, explaining that he would play defensive end on first and second downs, and move inside in obvious passing situations. Canty recently has expressed an interest in playing for the Dolphins, given that Miami V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells drafted Canty out of Virginia when Parcells was the coach in Dallas.

... I've said it before and I'll say it again, a monster at SLB will do more for us than a nice upgrade on the d-line. Only a really hungry Haynesworth would be more beneficial than a stud OLB but I think we all suspect he'll mail it in w/ a huge, longterm contract. If we address the o-line as you have here Ruh then we can take Rey Maluauga at 13 in all probability, the hardest hitter in the draft and a guy who will bring the heat when he blitzes. I think that's smarter than dishing out a pile for Canty, who will def not come cheap according to his agent. Besides, Canty will be happy to play for the Tuna again where we don't have to see him.

Re: 2009 Free Agents
Why do you think Canty wants to leave Dallas? He's a high-character guy, signing him would be a steal
