Re: Grade Jason Campbell

For his 1st ever NFL action that was an A hands down. With an actual NFL caliber defense backing him up he would have gotten his 1st win today.

I don't know the numbers but didn't it seem like the Bucs had posession of the ball about 40 minutes of the 60? AWWWWWWWWWWFUL defense!

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I gave JC an A, because he didn't throw a single pick -- much more than I expected.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I gave him a B, and now that I think about it I probably should have given him a B+/A-. For not having a running game what so ever, and pretty much no defense to back him up, he did great. He put the ball downfield, a couple were short, but that will come with more reps. He had good zip on the ball, good movement in the pocket, and I think he completed passes to seven different receivers. All good things. I think that if we had done a better job run blocking, and if the defense had showed up a little we definitely would have won today. I can't call what is wrong with the defense, it just doesn't make sense. The talent is there, they just don't get it done. Good Job JC!!

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I also think Jason is going to be the kind of QB where we're never out of a game. With his arm strength and acuracy, if we're down on the scoreboard, he has the ingredients to bring a team back. I never felt that way with Brunell.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

JC gets an A from me. His first start looked a lot more promising than anything I've seen in a while. I could see him adjusting, like when he bounced a comeback in to Lloyd and then threw high the next time (almost killing Lloyd in the process). He wasn't perfect, but considering the talk on this board was that he was going to throw for 150, two picks and no tds I'd say he was damn close.

I love whoever gave the kid a D. I bet it's the same guy who called the Venus de Milo some crap because it had no arms.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

Agree with all of the positive evaluations. Just wanted to add that hitting his receivers in stride on long throws was something that has long been missing on offense. Nice to see it back. This kid can play. Loved the play when he shrug off a tackle and made a beautiful throw.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I was very impressed by Campbell's play today. It seems to me that he is able to see the whole field and move through his progressions.. That is the great intangible for quarterbacks. Also his check downs are open in space which I think is a function of his arm strength. The defense has to respect the deep ball. I hate to admit it, but the Brunell haters were proved right to that extent today. His willingness to fire the ball downfield made this look like a different offense at times.

Having said that, I gave him a B because I think he can improve. He short-hopped a few easy throws. Also, I would like to see him show a little more enthusiasm and leadership out there. Being laid back is a shitty quality in a QB. But, those are things that can be fixed.

The kid can play. He can most definitely play.

A-/B+

not much to say....no running game, no D, but still 2 TD's and no Int's or fumbles. He moved around in and out of the pocket and threw fairly well.

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I gave him a B. He looked really poised in the pocket and made some nice throws. Main thing....he converted some critical 3rd downs for us. If that first pass he threw was thrown to Moss instead B.Lloyd, that would've been a td easily...

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

I was going to give him a B, but that pass to Thrash he made while under big time pressure gives him the plus.

1st start, trying to make a comeback, no INT. For a first start that says a lot. He had some under throws and over throws that cost him an A, but considering he has had about 5 practice days with these guys he did extremely well.

The season is lost, but we now have something (someone) good to watch!

Re: Grade Jason Campbell

The question should be what was there not to like about JC today. I think he did everything we could have realistically expected him to do, and maybe then some. He looks so calm and poised out there, that's what impresses me the most.
