I think you have to cut or trade as opposed to restructure. Watching them spread guarenteed money over future years makes me sick when they end up going 5-11. We've already made our first mistake of the offseason this year: restructuring Thrash.

Thrash had one year left on his deal and hes 33. Now we owe Thrash part of our 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 cap room, and all we got from it was 0.7 million in cap for this year. Just keep him under the current deal and cut someone else.

Ultmately, Thrash isn't going to lock up our cap in the future, but it's just a bad philosophy to keep perpetuating the problem like this.

I agree. I know he was great on teams, but sometimes you just have to let some guys go. If anything, Doughty was playing great on teams and you could let Thrash go and give people like Patten or Espy a chance.

Speaking of Rocky, I would love to know the mystery surrounding him. Sure, Taylor was just a beast and Rogers got in purely by injuries. What's up with Rocky? Is GW just a douche to rookies or was Rocky REALLY worse than Holdman?

GW probably felt more comfortable playing with the vet. One thing about GW that I've noticed is that no matter how much something isn't working, he never, ever acts out of desperation. I guess he would have viewed a move from Holdman to Rocky as being a move of desperation. I'd say this is a good quality in general since usually desprate moves end up being unsuccessful. I think he put Rocky in when he thought he was ready, not when he passed Holdman in terms of preparedness.

If we aquire a MLB through free agency, Marshall and Rocky should be able to compete for the starting job on the weak side.

See, I understand that GW is a great coordinator, but sometimes you have to go with the flow. Other teams start rookies from the start, and I would love the Skins to do the same. GUARANTEED if we draft some skill position rookies, they won't start until the end of the season. The good news is about tackles is a lot of times he's rotating them.

If I was the coodinator, I would have played Rocky from Week 6 on. But Gregg Williams knows a lot more about defense than I do, obviously, and probably considered factors that we didnt even know existed.

The D was very much in transition this year (with the Carter signing), and for Grilliams sake, I hope that was by design.

I have to agree.
When I read a post suggesting that GW or JOE2, or whoever had missed some elemental, simplistic fix for a problem............like our 2006 Defenseive woes, I am perplexed. These guys are not Gods. But, what they are is incredibly talented successful, highly respected, top of the food chain coach's. I find it....silly that they would not have noticed and acted on our observations here. And, as G already stated, we see what they allow us to see, nothing more. We really do not have any idea what the real story generally is.
I also cannot entertain the idea that they have built these reputations on maniacal, ego driven decision making.

Hell, for ME the move would have been more palatable if he would have PLAYED.

Re: GTripp's Official Mock Draft Thread

I have a sneaky suspicion that the Redskins may have been grooming Rocky to start at MLB in 2007. I'd like to see Marcus Washington there, but either way I have this feeling our starting MLB will be someone we already have. And it won't be Marshall

Interesting. I wonder if he's got the skill set to do it well.

I'd still like to see them bring in a London Fletcher, for depth if nothing else, and get him for a relatively cheap contract.

Well I know he played a handful of games in the middle at Miami, and he was pretty decent.

Does "sneaky suspicion"=(ESPN) inside information?

The only reason why I would have to disagree is that Rocky supposedly had difficulty picking up Williams' system and relied on his athleticism to recover from mental errors. Given that the MLB is the QB of the defense, I would doubt that Rocky would start in the middle unless he showed dramatic signs of improvement in grasping Williams' defensive scheme.

Of course we don't know if the Rocky struggling to learn the system report was leaked by the Skins to provide a different explination to why he isn't playing than the real explination. I think TAF's explination is equally as plausible and far more intriguing.

The point is we just dont know. But we CAN speculate, and thats fun!

No inside info, just a gut feeling. As you know, I'm very selective in how I divulge inside info.

....however, other info has contributed to this feeling

Unfortunately I know. I wish you blabbed more about tidbits (even rumors) you picked up at ESPN.
