Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I think we have all our DC's next year except for our 4th which we still owe as part of the Duckett trade last year.

Re: THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR: KENDALL to the Redskins

In addition, if you analyze the comments of Gibbs and Bugel recently, they have gone out of their way to defend the play of Stephon Heyer. They indicate that he was not responsible for the hit on Campbell's knee.

That tells me that they're pinning that play on the LG. Heisel slipped in between Heyer and Pucillo, but you didn't hear Gibbs or Bugel defending Pucillo at all. I think they feel it was Pucillo's fault.

And you know that hit to Campbell scared the living hell out of them. I'll bet the decision to acquire an LG was made right after that hit. They then started calling around, heard about Kendall, heard what he wanted money-wise, cleared the space by cutting Marshall, and made the trade.

That is an interesting point, and in retrospect cutting Marshall makes much more sense .

Well, I don't get it because if it was about clearing salary space, how come we paid Godfrey 300K more than Marshall? What am I missing here?

I haven't seen what Godfrey was paid. Do you have a link?

I assumed it was vet minimum.

He got $1.3MM. I'll try to dig the link up for you.

Jets Deal Unhappy O-lineman Kendall

What makes me feel great is the choice of words in the first two paragraphs. Let's pick a few out, shall we?

Acrimony
Bickering
Disgruntled
Upset
Railed
Grievances
Dispute

All used to describe a 34-year old football player.

Gives me goosebumps all over.

I think, that while Godfrey is older, he's better than Marshall.

Re: THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR: KENDALL to the Redskins

I'm sorry, I'm just not sold on Godfrey being better than Marshall. I'm not saying Marshall was a beast and I'm not saying Godfrey is a scrub. But Marshall has played in this system and started, and Godfrey...well, what have we seen of him in a Redskins uniform.

Unless Godfrey masters this system in a short period of time or he's a really good playmaker, I don't see the upgrade here. Again, only time will tell.

Well, granted it was seven years ago, but he mastered this system pretty well when he and Williams were in Tennessee together.

Re: THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR: KENDALL to the Redskins

Found a link on the Godfrey contract, Adam Shefter:

Day of dealings gets focus back on the field

Quote:
Washington signed free-agent linebacker Randall Godfrey to a one-year, $1.3 million contract to help the Redskins linebackers become more physical than they’ve been.
So the Marshall/Godfrey move was a net-zero impact on our cap, for the most part. It was simply about who they thought would help us out more at LB.

As for Kendall, we still have the cap room, regardless of the LB move. But this does cut into our ability to extend Cooley and fit him under the 07 cap. It's cuts into our ability, but it doesn't make an extension impossible.

Re: THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR: KENDALL to the Redskins

If you put Marshall and Godfrey side by side and ask who's the better player, even at 34 I think most would take Godfrey. He's played under GW before so it shouldn't be a major task to get him up to speed. The main concern is getting him into football shape.

Marshall simply doesn't have the size to hold up on the strongside for an extended period of time. As I said earlier, I think GW had flashbacks of Holdman getting run over and didn't want to see the same thing happen this year considering Washington has some injury concerns.

Re: THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR: KENDALL to the Redskins

I like the move. I hope it is for a 5th Rounder if only that it may mean the Skins are at least trying to get as much value for their picks as possible. The Skin's draft next year is going to be filled with linemen both Offensive and Defensive

Even if we pay a fourth, I'll be okay with it. We may get more than one year outta the guy and, if so, that's a huge help.

He played for GW, what , seven years ago? You know I'm never sold on these retreads that we bring off the street that played for some coordinator once upon a time. I really hope this guy is good. But if he's just okay, why do we let a LeMar Marshall walk, that's all I'm saying.

If Godfrey is just as good as Marshall, why even let Marshall walk?
Yeah let's keep the Godfrey/Marshall talk out of this thread
