Last I checked, we're a run the ball, pound it 35 or 40 times a game type of team. We have guys like big Mike Sellers just waiting to put a crater in somebody's chest with his helmet.

I can live with pounding it from the 1 and not making it. We went with our bread and butter. The Giants just got off the ball, what can you do.

Seems like they could have been anticipating the snap count a little. But as far as the playcall, I can't fault that move.
We don't have the offensive line to run the ball 40 times a game..plain and simple. But we do have a big mobile QB....Thank GOD

Re: First and goal on the one yard line, what would you do?

First thing that comes to mind with the sequence at the end for me was: preparation. I love Gibbs to death, just like all of you - but it was his responsibility to have this team prepared in situations like this.

To me, questioning the plays called and the players' execution at the end takes a backseat to Gibbs' responsiblity to prepare this team. For a veteran (not to mention hall-of-famer) coach, this should be a major strength, not a weakness.

If Gibbs hasn't started to already, he needs to go over and prepare these situations in practice. This is what seperates great teams from lesser ones.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!! We were 5-11 last year people! When did this sense of entitlement begin?? Sure we let one get away yesterday that we should have won, but we're 2-1!!!!!

Of course the sky is not falling, but it was raining on a day that was forecasted to be sunny and beautiful for the redskins. It is a little disheartening and at the very least disappointing, that the redskins lost because of the way that the season was going- until the 2nd half of the giants game. On the positive side though, realistically the redskins can be a great team THIS season - if they understand and work on the problems that arose during the 2nd half of the giants game.

!st - Spike the Ball to stop the clock.
2nd - Run the ball with Betts
3rd- Fake Spike Hit Moss or Cooley
4th- Play Action to Sellers, Hit Cooley

The H-Back is an obscure little known position in the NFL. It is a hybrid position combining the skills of a fullback, tight end, receiver, and offensive lineman in one position.

"Cooley has adapted to the position like a fish to water."

Re: First and goal on the one yard line, what would you do?

Remember, clock is running, no timeouts, less than 1:15 to play...

1st down-Rollout right, try to get Cooley in the back of the end zone

2nd down-fake Sellers dive, flip to Portis sweep left

3rd down-spike

4th down-4 wide shotgun with Cooley as a WR, roll right, try to find Cooley along the back of the end zone or run for the pylon..

i would have thrown a pass on a rollout.somebody would have bound to have gotten open.or they could have thrown a pass to samuels on a lineman turned/tackle eligible play.

Re: First and goal on the one yard line, what would you do?

Im not an NFL coach, I dont get paid Millions of dollars to make these decisions, and with Joe Gibbs calling those plays I would have said 9 times out of 10 we would make it in. We didnt, it happens, the Giants played great in the second half and we choked, but there is no reason to start a thread based on woulda, coudla, shoulda. Theres a reason Gibbs has a bust in the hall of fame, he knows what hes doing, sometimes it doesnt work, but how many teams have gone undefeated in the Superbowl era? Thats right, 1

Re: First and goal on the one yard line, what would you do?

From JLC,
"Anyway, we all know the Redskins have choked away their fair share of games since this staff took over in 2004. So I got to thinking how they stood up with other teams, and well, as in the overall W/L record the last 15 years or so, their company ain't pretty.

According to Elias, since 2004 the Redskins have 11 losses when leading at the half, which puts them ... worst in the NFL. Oakland (11) and Houston (10) are the only other teams with double-digit loss totals when leading at the half since Gibbs came back to the NFL.

Overall, Washington is a mediocre 15-11 in 26 games when leading at the half since 2004.

The Redskins used to be the team that got a lead and battered opponents like no one else in the game; now it's the opposite. The rosters aren't nearly as good, the front office not nearly as sound, and say what you will of ownership, game-day coaching decisions, etc.as you consider what this stat means, and what it points to. "

offiss is the football man, tough to compete with that.

Funny that he thinks someone else has an overblown opinion of their football knowledge.
