I agree with SmootSmack on VC pretty much. My main issue with VC over the years is that he never seemed to be accountable for any of the mistakes the Redksins have made under Snyder. Countless others took the fall while he remained. Now there seems to be a clear chain of command with VC at the top and we will see how he responds. I do like the early returns from this weekend.

Well, however we got here, we still have a needs on the d line, O line, LBs, and Dbs. We MAY have gotten a potential starter on the O line, but on the d line we drafted late and that's a long shot. Likewise with the safeties and CB.

So we had, what, 10 picks, with 3 in the 2nd round, and we didn't fill those needs. Or we could have done much more to fill them than we did. That's my worry with VC. They overvalued WRs and missed a good chance to meet some needs. Even if the WRs and TE do well (and we have too many WRs now, it looks like), we still have to do lots more to get younger and to get better "from the inside out".

UDFAs are an even longer shot than drafted players, and camp cuts are generally cut for a reason. It's rare to pick someone up who is anything more than a stop-gap type player.

Next year, I hope we draft more towards the O/D lines, and I think we should explore a serious impact FA for our defensive front 7. At least we haven't added a huge FA cap hit a la AA or Lloyd!

I liked that Cerrato made the trades, but I do feel like he might have stuck to close to the draft trade chart. With what the Panthers gave up for the nineteenth pick I felt like the most we needed to throw in to get the fourth round pick should have been the fifth rounder.

Good draft Vinny! I wish we had focused a bit more on defense but with the #1 and #2 receivers in the Draft taken, the #1 TE, a good punter, and a decent OL, I really cannot be disapointed.

The one thing I never really hated about Cerrato was his ability to draft talent. I feel like he's always done a good job with the picks that we have...the biggest probelm was he always traded away those picks before he had a chance to do anything. I really never thought the people he drafted was the issue with him.

I'm very pleased. I like we got the number 1 and number 2 rated WR's and one of the top 3 TE's. All in the second round. I love that we got Colt Brennan. I love the other pics, they are going to work out. All of them. Mark my words. The punter is even more. A young rookie to make a pro bowler. We haven't had a good punter in YEARS. REGGIE ROBY. Anyway, the only thing I dont like, is Cerrato's eyes. Has he had botox or something? NO expression. LOL. Anyway, I just think that Cornellius is a run smasher, and since Andre has come into his own (10 1/2 sacks this year), we didn't feel DE was of that much concern. We the fans may have thought it, but I guess they didn't. We've got some core backups for DE, since we have versitle lineman in Wilson and Montgomery. We could have used better secondary help, but maybe well trade or something, I dunno. Needless to say, we had a decent draft. B+

I would have preferred for them to have gone out and taken Campbell and possibly John Greco - or traded up to pick up Merling.

Ah well, we'll see what happens, no?

I've got to agree. I loved the trade back, but it seems like using all your top picks on the same skill set seems like you are playing the odds. I also don't like the recent track record of USC offensive picks in the NFL, hope Im wrong.
And the standard cop-out line of the weekend is "we took the guys that were highest on OUR board, regardless of position." Since it was THEIR board, that means they took whoever the hell they wanted. I'm sorry, but what is wrong with drafting for needs when you have glaring needs and are confident in your evaluations.
But hey, I'm glad that this is clearly Vinny's team now, so we will know who is accountable. Whoever made the calls on Lloyd and Arch, as well as Peirce, should have been fired, and maybe they have been for all I know.
And yeah, defense does win championships. The Giants D-line got to Brady. That's the only thing that could have beaten the Pats.

Nothing is wrong with addressing needs, but one thing that was said (by Zorn I believe) was that as the draft wore on there were players on the board at a position of need (D-line specifically) that they passed on because they didn't believe they had a good chance of making the team, and they figured it'd be better to draft someone at another position with less need if they had a legitimate chance of making the roster. I'll admit, that doesn't explain the 3 2nd round selections, but it is fairly obvious that a couple of prospects at DE they were hoping to pick up were snatched away literally a pick before them (merling - miami). SO, at that point you can either take someone you're not particularly interested in, or you address other needs; I'm glad with the choice they made.

I gotta say I was impressed with Vinny during the draft. And it seems like he really stuck to his guns, because he talked about how they were drafting the BPA and that's why they took guys like Fred Davis and Malcolm Kelly even though we had other needs, he said those were the top guys on our board, and he stuck with those picks probably knowing that some of the fan base would go berserk and question his intelligence about it. I was one of those fans right after it happened, but I've learned a lot about these guys the last couple days and now I do believe that all these picks can work out for us and make an impact.

I think the skins did a good job with the draft. Vinny has to get a lot of the credit. Also, the free agent signings included some possibilities.

My question is Fred Davis. Where does he fit in? Also, what role will Mike Sellers have in the new offense?

I also heard somewhere that Davis could be that "H-Back" type player...he's versatile. I like getting versatile guys. I think Vinny tries to go after versatile guys, and that's a good thing.
