we have thrash, he's proven he can do it.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns

ARE's punt return numbers have been in the toilet since he got here. But I will say I think he's developed into a pretty decent receiving option. He's got 11 catches on the year.

I agree. They need to get Randle El's hands on the ball more on offense. If he's utilized correctly, and if he can keep up his production as a wideout, he, along with Moss, Cooley, and Portis form an arsenal of weapons that defenses just won't be able to answer.

Since our offense has seemingly been in a constant state of flux, even during the Gibbs years, I don't think we've seen anything close to his potential as a crucial part of this offense.

Yay, now all of our 2nd round draft picks have made a contribution to the team. Maybe next wee we can pull them off of the "bust" bus.

Thrash or Malcom Kelly should get a shot.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns

Punt returning has to be the toughest position on the field when it comes to success. You catch the ball and are a sitting duck for 10 guys going on a headhunting mission for you. Sometimes you have less than a second before getting hit.

I still think we should give someone else a chance to avoid letting our #2 WR be a target...but Randel El is not a horrible returner. That fumble yesterday was, but he can make big plays too. I don't want Moss back there. It should be someone who we can afford to lose without disrupting our offense. Thrash or Malcolm Kelly would be best.

Check out the averages from last season. Tops in the NFL was 15.4 yards and that's only because the Bills took a lot of them to the house. Most teams would love to have a 10 yard/return average.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns

d thomas was terrible doing returns in preseason. thrash or betts might be better options, or maybe a rookie db, but tryon is the only one with speed, and that's a wasted active spot on sundays... hamilton maybe? he's a 4.5 guy...

Re: ARE: Punt Returns

Thomas returned kicks in college but not punts. I don't think we need to risk our WRs any more than we have to. Zorn mentioned the possibility of working some other guys in on punt returns, but he also said he hasn't given up on ARE.

Also, perhaps most importantly, ARE sucks at PRs in Madden.

Absolutely. If the defenders are close to hitting him when he catches the punt and he doesn't get to take a few strides, he'll fumble as soon as he gets hit. I either bail out or field it and hit the "dive" button right away so the other team won't scoop up the ball and take it back for a TD.

It happens almost every time. If the defenders get blocked decently, he can field it and get maybe 10 yards, but that's not often.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns

landry needs to be out there like darrell green was on the cover team. the only other redskin that may be faster is portis, and he sure as hell ain't gonna be out there.
he's the"angle"on defense, maybe he should be the angle on the punt team too.

Re: ARE: Punt Returns

I am down on ARE also...but you guys who want to throw a rookie back there are crazy. If you bench ARE then it has to be Thrash for the rest of this season and we can address a perminent replacement in the off season. I know ARE dropped one yesterday but aside from yesterday he has not been a fumbler back there and that is the most important thing. Thrash is the only other guy on the team that I trust will safely field ALL the punts.
