As long as Joe Gibbs and Greg Williams came up with a defense that knows how to defend the TIGHT END DUMP!!! , we should be all gravy.

On SportsCenter they just simulated the game (and some others) on 2K5. They had Portis rushing it 29 times for 175 yards and 3 TDs and the Skins winning by 3 after Gramatica misses a 52 yard field goal at the end of the game

They also had the Titans beating the Falcons in the Super Bowl. And the Bills (the Bills?!!) in the AFC championship game. I don't remember who was in the NFC title game

I say:

Cooley gets the first touchdown (on that same type of play the Bucs killed us on last year)

Springs has 2 INTs (the first of which will be deep in Seattle territory and lead to Cooley's TD)

Washington and LaVar with one sack each

Taylor with a forced fumble

Portis 125 yards rushing, 2 TDs

Play of the game: End around to Gardner, Gardner passes back to Brunell for a TD

45-0 Skins!

The skins will win this one. Our defense has looked good throughout the pre-season . It's very fast. It will give the bucs a lot of problems.

I don't think we will see many points in the first half. The team seems to have really bought into the gibbs system and that will translate into points in the third and fourth quarters. Skins win it.

First a comment:

My son played HS football against Charlie Garner when Garner was at JEB Stuart HS. Garner played both ways and he made a game saving tackle in the final minute to preserve a win for Stuart.

Now a question:

Since almost everyone is predicting a low score for the Bucs, is that because you think the Bucs' offense is bad or are you deluding yourselves into thinking the Skins' defense is REALLY good?

I think the Skins will win convincingly, (by a TD).

i have already made a prediction, but does anybody think that gibbs will come out in the no huddle?remember, the skins ran it pretty well his last two years in the league.
i think he is going to come out with more passing plays than running plays in the first series, maybe even a trick play or two with ramsey in the formation with brunell.he'll do something that will keep derrick brooks constantly shifting.

i'm not sure about the ramsey/brunell thing but i do agree with you about the passing.i think they could very well throw the ball,in the beginning, just to try too full the bucs d.

I think the Buc's offense will be that bad. 8 of their starting 11 are over 30, including their 2 starting WR's, their top 2 RB's and both their tackles. Their primary offensive weapon is C Garner, a 32 year old back coming of a knee injury. I just think, when it comes right down to it, the Skins defense will beat their blockers to the hole and their WR's wont get any separation. Galloway = the next Alvin Harper -> great straight line speed, little else.

Heh... Nice to see some reasonable predictions... but a Blowout?? I don't think so.

First let me that I completely enjoyed the way that your Skins "jobbed" Mike Vick. But as some of you already know, Brad Johnson, though as mobile as Jimmy Hoffa, CAN read and effectively counter blitzes.

The true test for the Bucs, however, is whether or not they can stop Clinton Portis. Is Portis really that good, or was he a product of the Denver system?
The Bucs defense is known primarily for speed. To gain speed, teams generally sacrifice size and strength. Ergo the Bucs achilles... the power runner. I assume that Portis may score a TD or two. I ALSO assume that the Bucs defense will score at least once (read: SB XXXVII).

This may be the Bucs biggest "test" this season. Some of you have noted that the Bucs lost Lynch and Sapp.. Worry not, those two hadn't performed really well the last couple of years. We have acquired Ian Gold, and with the return of Shelton Quarrels and Brian Kelly, our defense hasn't lost anything.

This will be the game between two old guys: Brunell and Johnson. Both guys are rapidly approaching fifty, and both are savvy veterans. Props to Gibbs for recognizing that Brunell is a better choice over Ramsey for starter. The experience of both quarterbacks should negate any inconsistancis that both offensive lines have.

A blowout? Hardly. Both teams have problem areas that the other will surely exploit. I give the edge to the Redskins (this time) with it being the Skins home opener AND the return of Gibbs. 20-19

Talking Football Nazi sez " No blowout for you"!

Have to agree with Mooz, was fun seeing Vick startled. But, he can't read a blitz with a dictionary in front of him. He also has Mini Me trying to cutblock the blitzer, and he's so tiny the defenders just hop over him on the way to the QB. Bradley can take advantage of the blitz, OTOH.

Sorry, no blowout. There are too many questions about both teams that will only be answered with 60 minutes of play, not one good quarter.

I'm going to say Bucs 17, Skins 10

Wasn't the defense AWESOME today!!!!!!!!!!! A toast to Williams and company!!!

How Bout that Bowen........okay who said Bowens brings it to practice but cant bring it to the game..........he certainly did against the Bucs...........WOW!!!
Portis has some good runs...and even rookie Coolie got in the act..............
Special Teams need work, (Bucs got good field position) and some key miscues on offense, those should be corrected with time........Overall good effort!!!

well, it looks like I wasn't too far off. Props on the win... and no, Portis doesn't appear to be the product of a system. Good Luck the rest of the season.
