Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
Before the Redskins even think about bringing someone in, They need to figure out the identity of the offensive line and Defensive Front 7.
It's time for Bugel to step down. I wish him well, He is a legend and I flat out love the guy but just lost touch with todays game. Zorn needs to bring in his guy and decide what type of line they will be and try to get players that fill those roles. Do they want to be a cowboys type line that is built on size and power with 350LB guards or do they want smaller more mobile guys like Denver that can go upfield and cut block linebackers. Some big Aaron Gibson type guys wont cut it in certain systems but could excel in others. The current Skins Oline has 5 guys with mixed talents. The Redskins wont be successful offensively till they get 5 guys who can do the same thing well. The same goes for the redskins Front 7 on the defense. I honestly think the redskins organization are content with the starting Dline. I have an issue with the talents of the linebackers. Typically, The MLB is a solid run stopper who can go sideline to sideline. We are fortunate to have one of the best. They need to decide what they want as outside linebackers. McIntosh is a quick smaller guy who can get in coverage but can get lost in the run game. Blades filled in for washington and did well in run support but was a liability in coverage. In my opinion he is Fletchers replacement at MLB and I think he will be a good one. At outsidelinebacker, He was overmatched. The redskins need to decide if they want larger linebackers that can plug gaps and destroy pulling guards or if they want smaller speed demons that can get around blockers and put pressure on the offense. With our front four mostly filling gaps and not putting pressure, I want to see the redskins pickup a good blitzing linebacker that can replace Washington. In general, I want them to bring in fast linebackers that can always chase down a play. There is no way to complete the overhaul in one year but I think it's something Zorn will have to do if he is going to be a successful coach. |

Rabach's best attribute is making line calls and recognizing blitz packages. In this offense that's the qb's job and I think he ends up lost and confused instead of confident on his assignment for the play.

Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
^we need youth at the D-line. All our lineman that are older then dirt which may only be 2 have some kind of problem. The second problem I see is they are either over sized DE meaning they are slower or they are undersized DT which I think they have problems getting a good push to collapse a pocket. If the line is solely going to stop the run then lets get some people who can collapse a pocket while trying to stop the run. Then other QB's will not be able to escape what little rush we have.

Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
I think the Skins need an impact player in free agency. One guy. Not a bunch of mid-level guys signed to contracts that hurt us in the future, while we see very little increase in talent now. I think Terrell Suggs, Albert Haynesworth, Julius Peppers, Jordan Gross all fit the profile, but don't chase a bunch of these guys. Pick one of them, make him an offer he can't refuse, sign him in the first three days of free agency, and be done with it. No trying to rebuild a core through free agency. Just one guy to take us to the next level.

I wouldn't pay him at the same level I would pay any of those other guys, though. He's a LB who I'm not sure can play the middle in a 4-3 scheme, so while I would love to have him, he's not quite the impact player the rest are.

Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
If he falls far enough down in the first round...Brian Orakpo DE, Texas would be a nice fit in our defense. Young, powerful and fast. But I don't think he falls to the middle of the first round for us to take him.

Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
Don't tease me. Orakpo is a beast. I have to keep telling myself that i don't want him because the Skins never draft any players i like. So my official stance is that i don't want the Skins to draft Orakpo. Anyway he'll probably be gone by the time we draft.

Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
DT P. Jerry is a stone cold beast my only concern is his size, but i think DT is starting to get away from those big animals, unless they are athletic. plus i think we have run stoppers in montgomery at 325#'s and golston at 315. to be able to put a dline together of taylor, carter, daniels, evans as your ends + griffin, jerry, montgomery, golston, daniels as your tackels= a pretty damn good dline........very versitale and on third down there are all kinds of combinations that would help us get to the quarterback.........man now that i look at that, i want Jerry bad, that guy would only make our defense better which is hard to do if you ask me.

Re: A 2009 Spring Dream....
i know this is not a need at all, esspecially because i am a huge portis fan.......but i love watching knowsean moreno play. if he comes out i would love to see him on our team and in this offense. i think he is a tougher reggie bush. maybe not quite as talented but similar and tougher......but again i am a huge portis fan, the biggest.....this also means we find some where else for betts.....food for thought, hes also another explosive offensive player which we need some where besides moss.
