So basically it saves us no money this year and means center eats up two full roster spots for the year... oh yeah we don't get a franchise LB either
Yeah and we know how much Blache likes to start rookies so Rey-Rey would start opening day? Isn't Blache the guy who said he'd rather fall in love with a stripper than a rookie? Just busting your balls a little Goat.

Pick Alex Mack after a trade down with Detroit in the 20th spot, if not possible, then pick him at 13.

Good one... basically we've got stodgy traditionalists running the show on both sides of the LOS. But otherwise you bring up a good point too if the draft shakes out the way GTripp has it here do we even get a starter w/ our first pick?

Raback still has gas in the tank but gets beat by elite nose tackles. Mack could start at the earliest by mid-season. Who knows?

If we draft a defensive player they could probably start right away given how camp plays out.

Don't be so down Goat. No one knows how the season is going to play out. Horton was put into a starting postion. Who saw Hall coming? Remember when everyone was on the Jordan Cross wagon? He was forced to start too and didn't miss a beat. You never know.

It's not too late to get on the Mack wagon.

What's the record for the most OL taken in the top 10?

Maybin

I admit I don't know if this guy is best suited as an OLB, but if he can play Sam & rush the passer, he's worth the pick.

Is Tyson Jackson really a top 10 pick at this point? And Oher? I'd be surprised to see that.

Take Unger or Mack. Due to cap restraints, trade some of remaining draft picks or 1 lower one from next years to get into the upper 2nd round and take an OT Britton or Loadholt to solid up the O-line, then let's go on to camp.

Here are some numbers I put together for OL's taken in the 1st Round. I looked at Top 12 since we pick 13th.

Year Total Top 12 Position

2008 8 2 8T
2007 4 1 1T, 1G (29)
2006 2 1 1T, 1G (23)
2005 4 0 2T, 1G (32), 1C (36)
2004 3 1 3T
2003 4 1 3T, 1C (21)
2002 5 3 4T, 1G (30)
2001 4 1 2T, 2G (2, 17)
2000 3 1 3T
1999 6 0 4T, 1G (19), 1C (17)

Well, let's see then. The most OL taken in the Top 12 in the last 10 drafts was 3. During that period, only 1 G and no C were taken in the Top 12.

Only 7 G and 3 C have been taken in the 1st Round in the last 10 years. Most of them turned out to be exceptional players.

Re: I give you the first 12 picks, Give me your Redskins draft pick!

I have read your case for Mack and I think it is compelling. I also like him as a player and, in this doomsday scenario, I could support taking him at #13. He is athletic, moves well, and has nice leg drive, particularly when he is blocking on the second level. He can probably play lower, and will have to in order to dig out elite nose tackles on the next level, but I think he has the athleticism to improve on his technique. My question, however, would be to what extent the Redskins acknowledge their need at Center? I am perfectly willing to admit that Rabach is a serious liability, but do they recognize that fact? That would be the central question in this scenario.

I know they acknowledge their need at OLB and for a pass rusher. Aaron Maybin would fit both of those criteria and would be a good system player in Blache's scheme. I have also read your case against Maybin and find that equally compelling (one year player, no chance to regress to mean, really a system fit and probably not fit with whoever succeeds Blache). My feeling, though, would be that in the scenario you offer the Redskins would attempt to fill the need that they see as most urgent and take Maybin over Mack. I'd rather have Mack in the first and Sidbury in the third, but I think the choice here would be Maybin.

Mack in the first and Sidbury in the third would be alright with me. I'd love to see Sidbury playing next to AH. Could also play SAM.

I just so I can cover as many bases as humanly possible, in your scenario I'd take Robert Ayers.
