Re: One player the Skins cannot afford to lose to injury in '09

You guys pretty much already said the players we cannot afford to lose.. Samuels is #1 in my list, he's the cornerstone of the line.. We have seen what happened when he went down; it was difficult for me to watch our O play without him.. I held my breath almost every time for JC when they run the pass plays.. As for Portis, as much it would be devasting to lose him; we already have Betts who is pretty much similar with Portis and he already proved us that he's more than capable of taking over the role excluding the fact of his fumble problem..

As for defense, I probably would have to say Landry, as well.. Fletcher is cornerstone of our D but he can always stand on standline with the mic talking to Blades during game.. Since I (and we) don't know how much Moore is improving; we did not really hear much about Landry last season, and that is because he did his job perfectly.. Losing him would make Blache to be more conserve when calling plays; that would be the worst thing that could happen to our D..

Chris Cooley.

We would miss his production as a blocker and a reciever, both in the redzone and stretching the field. With Cooley gone they would be able to really give Moss fits.

Yes, I remember what Springs said about Davis "going to be the best TE in football in a couple of years", but all of the talent in the world does not necessarily equal on the field production.

That is one I don't want to think about. He is such a grinder, and we certainly would not be the same team without him.

Samuels is the obvious guy no doubt...but it just gets you to thinking how thin the oline is across the board. A Rabach injury might sink the ship just as easily for instance. Losing JC would really crimp the offense but it might be exciting to see Colt come out slingin.

Defensively, I have to go w/ Landry. This will be more apparent this year I expect as he's set to turn elite. Fletcher would be sorely missed but I have a feeling Blades would get there pretty quickly.

I think anyone on the offensive line, especially Rabach. You can plug Collins in to QB and have a good year. You can do the same with Betts and Portis.

The Defense is set. If Fletcher goes down we've got guys who can take over and do a good job. The offensive line has had a question mark over it for a long time. Until the FO starts drafting quality players instead of picking up undrafted guys and wash-outs, it's going to stay that way.

Samuels: "Our defense has been carrying us pretty much since I've been here. So if we can just get 24 points a game, our defense can bring it home."
Sara Walsh: "You think that's realistic...24 ppg?"
Samuels: "I think so. We have the talent and this is our coaches second year together."

I would have to say Samuels , I would hate to see Cp , Landry , or Fletcher go down , but we have a great defense and IMO , Blades and Moore should be fine . Rogers and Hall would be a hit if we lost either of them , you never want to lose a corner . Hope like hell we have ZERO bad Injuries this year .

I was always curious who could talk into the headsets, is there multiple people talking at once or is it like a walkie talkie where only one person can talk at a time. Also, is there a rule that only one guy on offense/defense can have a headset, because I thought I remembered last year some guy getting injured near the end of last year, on a play-off contender, and he was in the ear of some young lineman telling him what he was supposed to do in a headset. Also, I wonder who's in JC's ear? There's Zorn and Sherman Smith and sometimes you see backup QBs with headsets.

And in response to the question, I would say Samuels. I think Moore can replace Landry. I think Smoot and Barnes are solid as well as Betts. Collins took us to the playoffs when he came in two years ago. Fletcher is close, but I think AH and Orakpo will help a lot especially at stopping the run so there won't be as much pressure on the MLB.

Good call on Landry. He's the one guy on defense the Skins can't afford to lose, and by a pretty huge margin.

But I still say that with the lack of depth on offense, there's about four guys who come in ahead of Landry overall.

Hard for me to say Portis or Campbell, since we've seen the Skins excel with both of them out for extended periods of time. I know all the counter-arguments, but still don't think either of them being injured would totally unravel the offense.

So I'll say Samuels as well. Campbell, like most QBs, can be very effective with lots of time.

On D, probably Haynesworth. His play has the ability to elevate everyone on defense. He stuffs the run, affords the DEs single coverage, which in turn leads to more sacks and forces bad throws, which leads to more fumbles and interceptions, etc. Like I've said before, I'm of the opinion that you don't need high-paid cornerbacks when your front 4 can consistently put pressure on the QB, so I don't think Rogers or Hall are all that important (assuming Haynesworth is as advertised and our DEs don't suck).

It might be Santana Moss. We've sucked without him and even if Thomas steps up this year, without 'Tana on the other side, defense's will just key on him like they do Santana. Hopefully Kelly plays well too, but I'd hate to see our offense without Moss right now.
