Jesus you're dense. Campbell had similar throws. Is he the best at throwing the deep ball? No. Did he hold onto the ball too long/not protect it well enough at times? Sure! I can make any QB look mediocre by picking out a handful of plays a year or speaking on their weaknesses.

Let me explain why it worked for Collins; they didn't expect it. You bring in a backup and they expect you to go a bit easier on him with the throws or to hand the ball off. We surprised two teams with a couple of throws, it happens.

I think most of us recognize Campbell isn't quite as awesome and blameproof as some here would say and not nearly the loser that others think. He falls somewhere in between.

Seriously, why can't we just acknowledge that Jason Campbell is probably somewhere between the 15-25th best starter in the NFL. Let's say, for argument's sake that he's the 20th best starter (worse that I think). You better be damn sure that the 4th overall pick (if you take a QB there) is going to be at least a top 10 QB, IMO. It makes no sense to slightly upgrade the QB position with the 4th pick. you have to hit a home run and that guy has got to be a beast.

We have no idea what Colt is, but I have no real issue with an open competition for the starting QB spot in camp. I think the Brennan fans will be disappointed if that happens, though. I don't see Colt being a big upgrade over Jason, a rookie maybe, but probably not Colt. He reminds me a little of a bad Tony Romo and I don't see him making the team this year. (That's coming from a guy who really likes Colt, but isn't delusional enough to believe he can be a great starter in the NFL)

I'm not saying that I don't think Allen and Shanahan can come together and find a great QB at the top of the draft, I'm just saying, he'd better turn out to be a significant upgrade. I don't know that I see that in any of the kids coming out this year.

The OL was garbage last year and has been in a steep decline the last 2 seasons. Sorry, but that's fact, not an excuse. I'm not going to bother getting into the whole JC debate. The issue has been beaten to death around here.

You keep calling him Candle it's hard to take any even legitimate critique you have of him seriously.

Is "Candle" some sort of joke or just bad spelling?

Joke based on a commercial Campbell did for Geico (I think) where they poked fun at him and called him Jason Candle

It was from an ad JC did. His agent made signs for Jason Candle. At least I hope that's it, and not a mistaken spelling.

Re: Colt Brennan vs Rookie class

So...as per the thread title what about Colt vs. the rookie class? Personally I think there is room for both Colt and a rookie.

It appears that we've hit a time warp and we've been transported back to the beginning of the 2009 season when there was an actual debate about Campbell.

Re: Colt Brennan vs Rookie class

My head is sufficiently asploded. Got to go to a thread where people are realistic enough to not think of Colt Brennan as a future starter.

There's probably some merit to the thread here, but it's been ruined.

Re: Colt Brennan vs Rookie class

Anyway Brennan deserves a shot just like how Campbell and Collins both got shots last year to be a starting QB, and by a shot I mean he gets to play with the starters and not 2nd/3rd Stringers.

Brennan had his shot. Now, Andre Woodson, he didn't get any meaningful gametime here before we moved on. Brennan has been here two preseasons.

It was a 6th round pick that didnt pay off. Won't be the last.
