I heard this same question asked to Pat Kirwin on NFL Radio about a month ago and he basically said the term "#1 WR" refers to a WR that dictates coverage.

I think having a questionable coach in Hixon may have slowed the development of the WRs here, and is partly responsible for Moss's "lapses", i.e giving up on the route in the Seattle playoff game, which in turn led to a TC pick.
Now with McCardell here, we could have two beasts in the making. Thomas could be even better than Brandon Marshall--Marhshall's 40-time is only 4.57--and Kelly could be right on par with him, or marginally better because he's likely a better route runner than Marshall. |

I don't know about that. Marshall's hands are on a different level than Thomas's.

that's a great point...Defensewins has described someone, who, if they existed, would be the most complete wr/tight end/hb hybrid in the history of the game. You have to let some of that stuff go. I mean, how many players can you name who are "great" at the 1,2 and the slot?

#1- I like Marshall but I'm not giving up a 1st round draft pick for him. If they would except next years 2nd round draft pick I'd do it in a heart beat.
#2- There were a few WR's on the open market that could have been had with as much talent that would not have cost us a draft pick and the team didn't even make a play for them. #3- You want a top tier WR now you might as well go after T.O. for a 2 year deal with a 1 year out claus in case he becomes a problem. Opposing teams still have to game plan around him because of his height and abilities even though they are deminishing. That would leave the other WR's one on one or atleast one person open. All JC has to do is be able to scan the field which is part of his problem. Not enough time and lack of ability to see the whole field. |
