I don't mind the new ones. I'd be all over a Trail Edition if I could get the 4.6 in it. Hopefully they'll put the 4.6 in the 4Runners in the next couple years.

I like the v6 4th gen 4runners the best. The 3.4 v6's having timing belts, which I hate, and they were underpowered. Other than that, they were great. I just wouldn't fall over myself trying to get one.

Holy crap...find a new mechanic.

Wheels will not be loose from bad wheel bearings. The main symptom of bad bearings is a droning, loud noise when moving...that will increase in volume as the speed increases. I bought a Jetta that sounded like an 18-wheeler...changed the wheel bearings...smooth, silent ride.

Yes, absolutely a bad wheel bearing can cause the wheel to have play in it, or "loose" as some say. Noise is the most obvious sign, but so is play at the wheel.

Also, I find it funny that you own a Jetta.

Re: F...Toyota

Wow, those are extremely bad cases. The most common symptom is the noise.

If you are hearing it in the car it is going to do that when you put it on a lift.

If they're really bad, yes, but not all the time.

cpayne, are you an auto mechanic or a toyota rep? I am just wondering, you seem very knowledgeable, but a little biased towards Toyota.

So final answer left rear wheel bearing replaced under warranty; so both cpanye and buster were correct on the no wiggle.

I have gone to NOVA CC in Manassa for my associates in Automotive so I know some stuff but I am no expert.
