Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
I told anyone who would listen to me that the Eagles would lose.
One: we always play good in Philly for some reason. Two: McNabb was going to play good no matter what. Three: The Eagles just aren't that good, even with Vick playing out of his mind. That being said, Heyer is dogshit. And it is about effing time they play Haynesworth more and it is about effing time they play more 4 man fronts. If we were lucky to beat Dallas, we were just as unlucky to lose to the Texans, so whatever. We are #1 in the East and have been for 3 out of 4 weeks. So it is what it is. We are probably losing next week but I would bet a lot of $ that we play hard. |

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
The negativity is due to over a decade of promising seasons going down the drain. To be honest, the kool aid folks help set the tone. You get a ton of hurrahs and SB dreams every preseason that is full of optimism due to a new regime, players, etc, and of course this season is going to be different stuff. A lot of folks were stoked over Norv, Marty, Spurrier, Gibbs coming back, and even Zorn, along with the assorted free agents over that time period and draft picks. I mean come on, this team has been a tremendous tease with all the changes and flashes of being an excellent team even in losing seasons, only to let us all down. ANd yeah, I am glad we won, and will take a W anyway we can, but you have to admit this game for both teams was really ugly offensively. When your hotshot probowl QB ends up with a 60 QB rating, it wasn't a productive day.

You just have to realize this is a game that in the grand scheme of things doesn't affect any of us.

Which is exactly why I have no problem setting high expectations, and appreciating when they make good plays (heck even when they're lucky) and win. Why not enjoy the damn game?

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
For people who argue that this game was meaningless, I disagree. Any game where you have a chance to take the division lead is a big game. They have won two big games this year. Maybe at the end of the year it doesn't mean much but right now it means everything.

If we had lost I can only imagine what we would be calling it. The season would be over.

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins at Eagles)
SCP said it didn't mean much. You talked about the people who said this was all luck and were completely negative (although I can't help but think about you defending Saden's Goat thread 5 minutes after we beat Dallas). At the end of the day, I am with you. If you win a game that puts you in first place, it is a big game. My 3 year old could figure that out. |

Apart from a Super Bowl win, I think its fine and good to have civilized discussions (even after a win) on where the team struggled and calling them out on it. I think that can be done while still appreciating/enjoying a win. And those like me, the "blind kool-aid drinkers" are capable of noticing our faults and where we need to improve. It's all the "Oh my God, we're totally going to lose the game now" posts after a 7 yard gain on 2nd and 14 for the Eagles at their own 19 yard line trailing by two TDs late in the 4th that make no sense to me. I'm going to kind of call someone out here. I've seen a couple of games with someone here. And he couldn't be a nicer guy. But watching a game with him... I wanted to jump off the roof of a high-rise then fire a bullet in my mouth. It just took all the fun out of watching football.
