Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
This has less to do with our special teams success than Danny being retained. I have no idea how he is still employed here. I'm sure i'm missing something.

Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
Mr. Smith recently signed a multi-year extension, so he'll stay in Washington.
Players love him apparently

Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
I think our Special Teams are great and Danny is a true motivator. Its never easy to have a bunch of guys that are on the bottom of the roster and playing spec teams for a reason to work with. Danny takes the fall for Gano's misses or some blocked FG's suffered- that's not a true measure of his coaching ability.

Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
I wonder how those numbers shake out if blocked kicks are removed.

Gano's blocks: 30*, 49, 49**, 23, 36 Now his stats are more like: Gano: 18-29: 14/14, 100% 30-39: 5/7, 71.4% 40-49: 8/9, 88.9% 50+: 4/6, 66.7% Total: 31/36, 86.1% *Reported yardage adjusted due to conflicting reports **Coaches said the kick was too low That's what Gano's percentages look like if you completely remove the blocked kicks from his attempts. Personally, I'm not really in favor of this because sometimes the kicks don't get up quick enough and it's not always the line's fault. Last edited by jdlea; 04-25-2012 at 10:37 AM. |

Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
Gano numbers
(without blocks) FGA - 41 FGM - 36 (add 5 due to blocks) FG % - 87.8% That's a 12% increase from the 75% he's currently at due to those blocks. You do realize if those 5 kicks aren't blocked he's ranked as one of the best FG kickers in the league? It's amazing what a 12% swing on your stats will do. From goat to hero.

Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
Again, the new Skins motto is clearly competition at every spot. I like Gano, always have. But let him compete through camp, work on his timing and accuracy, and may the best man wins.
Personally I am still counting on the Redskins bringing both Luck and Griffin in (trading the rest of our next two drafts to Indy after they take luck of course) and let the best man win that competition too! |

Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
Didnt Rackers make like a record number of fg's in a row then blew a game winner against the Bears that "let'em off the hook"???

Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
When I see Gano and a reference to his skills as "elite" I tend to freak out. sorry

Re: Redskins sign kicker Neil Rackers
2010 NFL Player Kicking Stats - National Football League - ESPN
go to kicking percentages: 2010: 68% worst in the league 2011: massive improvement: 3rd worst in the league at 75.6% oh then the Sushi arguement: 74.2%, worst in the league last year for Pittsburgs. Guess I was right bout him too.
