Predict RGIII's next team

AKA it's not going to happen.

The Cousins situation will likely go down to the wire, because that's just how these things work. Neither side is going to budge until they have to.

Eventually that's where I think he might end up. But not now. He'll get another team or two that will give him a shot. Look at some of the scrub QB's through the years that got several chances.

If a team was interested in RG3, why not start showing interest and talking contract now ... even though Im sure they have no real intent to do a sign and trade. I assume skins gave permission for teams to talk sign and trade w RG3s people.

Basically like early FA for RG3 .. which is a benefit to him.

well reports from this year is RGIII really didn't take advantage of his time to really relearn his game this last year, so... i'd guess he's most likely to bounce around unless he finds someone that wants to run a version of zone read (until he gets hurt again and gets even slower).

patrick ramsey never got better or had a 2012 type year and he managed to hang around for over 7 years, so... i wouldn't be predicting the CFL any time soon.

If he didn't, that's really disappointing. I hoped, even though I know he won't be on the Skins, that the year off to heal, and learn the position as more of a pocket passer would let him come back in the league as a better QB.

For me Griffin is a QB in arrested development that could possibly start for several teams given the right circumstances.

By arrested development I'm referring to his past. He played in a hybrid offense as a rookie and was phenomenal; then he got hurt. Missed training camp as sophomore and played again in a hybrid offense. 3rd year brought a new regime and scheme change to a true rhythm drop back passing offense. Griffin was afforded 5 games of development with an ankle injury sandwiched in between before the new HC benched and gave up on him after 2 bad games.

The key for Griffin is to either find a team that will meet him at his current level of development and build an offense around him that allows him to be productive while developing. If you look at a QB like Tyrod Taylor I have to believe that Griffin right now could match his level of production in that style of offense or if you look at KC's offense I think Griffin could quickly match Alex Smith's level of production. I also think both of those QBs would have much less success rote "true" drop back passing offenses.

But the question remains is their a team willing to give him that chance and also has the know how and the desire to implement an offense around him? And will they stick with him through a rocky start as Jay/McVay stuck with Kirk then eventually opened up the offense as he developed.

I could see Griffin starting and playing well next year...but I could also see him being a back-up that a team could hand the reigns to if he develops in the background or I could see him bouncing around as journeyman Rex Grossmans/Josh Freemanesque back-up for several years.

I wish him the best. He remains one of the most talented QB prospects I've ever seen and could either become a cautionary tale or redemption story.

Why should a team build an offense (system, personnel, philosophy) around a guy who can't stay on the field and hasn't been productive since 2012.

Should the team that takes a flyer on him change their offense to mimic Kyle Shanahan's?

Should they draft based on that style offense?

That's wishful thinking. This is the NFL and he hasn't done anything but look bad lately.

Nobody is going to build around, nurture, or coddle him like the Redskins have because they don't have the amount of draft picks or an entire scheme change devoted to him.

He is just another guy now and will have to prove it like anybody else.

He will be competing for a job in camp.

Hopefully he has been working on his weaknesses that were exposed as recently as the 2015 preseason.

DY, if a team sees him the way you do they wouldn't sign him.

Griffin is still a talented QB. Remember who he was as a prospect? It takes a talented QB to put up his 2012 numbers. Right now he's a better passing version of Tyrod Taylor in my eyes.

The perception of Griffin post 2012 is much worse then the reality. Griffin's received a bizarrely slim margin for error during his "development".

To answer your question........


Ideally, it starts with belief that he does have "tons of potential". That belief is essential and hand and hand in that belief is patience. In essence you approach Griffin similar to the way an organization (should imo)approach a young QB.

I'll let Holmgren explain it for me:
"You list them, you evaluate them, you discuss them as a scouting and coaching group, and you pick one. Now—and this is very, very important—once he's with you, you never, ever let anyone believe he's not the right guy, not the quarterback of the future. In the building, obviously, that's a given. But in public too. Every time you talk about him, he's your guy.....You've got to be willing to pick a guy and be behind him. Coach your a-- off, fix what needs to be fixed..."

Scheme is secondary to the above. There are several ways to skin a cat from an Xs and Os perspective; there isn't just "a" certain must take path.

It could be Broncos style offense with Brock or an offense like Reid does with Alex Smith or an offense like the Bills with Tyrod Taylor its not even out of the question for him to play in more flexible WCO like with Gruden except you let him ride through the rough patches. A starting point though is Griffin's impact on backside pursuit in the run game. That threat regardless of how its used schematically (bootlegs--outside zone, read-option) can be a main element in the offense that Griffin brings to the table.

I feel like I have seen enough "Bust" QB's, and even though my analysis of the NFL and certain players have been compared by some on here to a "teen girl spreading gossip", and I mean that with all due respect to the posters who have called me out.

That being said, I think Griffin is a "bust", but only in the sense that so far he has not performed like a 1st round pick barring that magical 2012 season.

I think he will get another shot, as they all do, but he will have to get his shot by signing with a team as a backup, and then either earning the job in pre-season or getting put on the field due to injury.

What he does with that chance will define his career, i feel. He is not worthy of unquestioned starter status, but he may yet resurrect his career somewhere else. If he doesn't, he seems to be a good character guy and will likely be a good backup if he wants it...
