Brunell had a good season in 2005, he was bothered in the playoffs by a leg injury and he couldn't plant his foot to throw. But as you say he was aging and starting to become brittle. I still feel today that Brunell was a scapegoat in 2006 for the entire redskins offense being cursed by Al Saunders and his famous 1000 page playbook.

Anyone else on the final pick today also, just a little even, feel like Garcon (and this is rare IMO) flat out got beat TO THE BALL? .... Cuz after the replay i kinda felt that way.

Agree with this I wish we stuck to what we were doing AIR Croyell style and Don Breaux coordinating i think we'd have been better off....

Cousins had three options. Run into fg range on first down. Throw it away. Take a sack. All three would have probably led to at least a tie.
He chose to throw an errant pass.
Fuck him.

Was that the game Sean Taylor got ejected from for spitting and where he also has a fumble return for TD? Or was that the regular season game?

Agreed.

The end of the season was the most frustrating of the past few years.
But we have a good team. We are not laughed at as we used to be.

As bad as they look defense is just a few pieces away from being effective: DL, FS (we'll have Cravens doing great at SS next year) are priorities, maybe another CB and a playmaker at MLB to play alongside Foster.

And maybe another DC.
I've defended Barry all season but 3rd down defense speaks bad scheme and bad play calling. Guys showed they would stop offenses on 1st and 2nd down, gotta be able to get them off the field.

Offense we'll be fine. Only head-scratching squad is the O-line. They were great at times, really consistent in pass protection. But the running game wasn't there on a consistent basis. Part of it is play calling. Part of it probably is a not so great vision by Fat Rob. But I blame the O-line for some of it, they didn't open holes consistently. Kelley was touched in the backfield way too many times.
Spencer Long did a really good job but we might need a big ass center for the run game. And maybe a LG.

There's no real holes to fill in this offense so we may be able to spend what's needed on the OL.

There is nothing headscratching...mcvay and Gruden are not committed to running the ball. Stats don't lie, we win we can run the ball. There is no argument against running the ball.

Last night when we were poised to start the drive that would win us the game with 6 and half minutes to go....what happened folks? 3 consecutive throws that gave us the 3 and out and promptly ended the season.

I definitely see us addressing more help at RB and bringing in someone at LG. But the coaching staff needs to address the run game approach.

Re: Off season begins.

The run game starts up front. Our front 5 got owned. We could have a ran it all day but when you're getting 2 yards a pop at a certain point you have to move on and try something else.

And we lose. When we run the ball and have a balanced offense we win. Period. We don't win with cousins throwing the ball 35+times. He's not Brady, brees or Rodgers. I don't think mcvay understands that fact.

LG and Running back needs to be address in the offense first and foremost. Then we need to resign a starting WR and make a decision who starts on the opposite side. How about TE? Reed, Niles Paul and carrier all seem to be injuried off and on throughout the season. Vernon Davis is an old man....zero surprise if we look at TE middle round in the draft and we should.

To simply say the offense is "just fine" is absolutely the biggest smoke and mirrors bullshit with this team.

I agree with this. And you can simple look at our offense and see how many weapons we have, yet the formula for stopping us is simple: take away the running game, get to Kirk Cousins and rattle him - your good! That's exactly what happened yesterday.

The formula for success is simple: Build offensive line, build the defense. We have enough at the skilled positions for it to all fall in place.

Re: Off season begins.

Lots of holes to fill on D. We've got money to spend and we better consider using it especially up front. We also need guys like Cravens, Fuller, and Smith to be significant contributors next year. I like Mason Foster but I've never been completely sold on Compton, I think we can upgrade there. Joe Barry needs to go, I don't think he should take all the blame but we can do much better.

WR is also another potential need with Garcon and DJ both possibly out the door. I think Jackson is gone but we'll make a good effort to keep Garcon. Obviously Doctson needs to step in and contribute like a #1 pick right off the bat.

I like Rob Kelley, he's a grinder and his numbers project out well over 16 games, but if there's a playmaker out there in the mid to later rounds you have to grab him. You can never have enough backs.

As for Cousins, pay the guy. Otherwise we're starting over at the most important spot on the team and I highly doubt McCloughan is interested in moving backwards in year 3.

Kirk HAS to look at Crowder more often....he always creates space and is a big threat of YAC

I completely agree with everything that you said!

Excellent Analysis!

Re: Off season begins.

Looks like there is a chance that the Redskins might be looking for both an Offensive Coordinator and a Defensive Coordinator...

Report: Rams to interview Redskins OC Sean McVay

Re: Off season begins.

This team is going nowhere with Gruden and Cousins. Complete inability to manage the game or the clock. By the end of the season teams figured out that all they had to do was pressure Cousins and he'd panic and throw an INT or just stand there and get sacked. Make sure a dinged up Reed was covered tight and you can do it all day. You can be sure the rest of the league has taken some notes and the numbers Cousins put up this year will never be repeated.
