so what about Rex Ryan as a DC? he is not going to get looked at as a HC anytime soon, but was a great 3-4 DC . . . thoughts? I'd be game myself

I wouldn't mind but the theme with our coaches is "Tampa North" which basically means Jay likes hiring guys he or our front office have worked with before, typically from TB. If he breaks the mold and hires a guy he's not familiar with, like Wade Phillips/etc. that would be great but I'm not holding my breath. I really don't want Greg Manusky though, so if we end up with him I won't be too happy. He needs a coordinator with a proven track record, or a position coach that learned under the master.

I would personally like to go back to the 4-3, maybe we can get Wilks from Carolina, and sign KK Short in the process lol

we were in the 4 - 3 more than in the 3 - 4 the last couple of years . . . all defences these days are hybrids of sorts that utilize both

if he wants to coach in the NFL again, DC will be the highest position offered to him . . . nobody is going to offer him a HC position anytime soon.

he did prior to getting a head coaching gig . . . and plenty of of other strong minded head coaches have gone back into coordinators . . . easier job and still tons of money . . . don't know for sure if he can, but he was a great 3-4 DC

Rex Ryan isn't going to be a DC again. He'll either get another HC job or go into TV (like Cowher)

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

I don't want Rex Ryan just because I think he would be a distraction and sure don't want his brother, Potbelly Ryan.

My picks would be either Bradley or Phillips.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

That would make me vomit if we hired from within on this one. We need someone PROVEN right now. We really don't have a window to let someone learn on the job after fielding shitty defenses in this past. This would be Barry all over again (except he has a bit more experience).

Look at this: 2007 San Francisco 49ers Statistics & Players | Pro-Football-Reference.com

This is even with a pretty talented defense. Gross.

Argh. Here's his other stop: 2011 San Diego Chargers Statistics & Players | Pro-Football-Reference.com

After Rivera left (who had an elite defense), it went to shit in his first year.
