the issue is playing time!! playing time = production Incentives w/o playing time = not getting incentive $$$.. Thing is we kept him on for two full seasons where he was injured the whole time. I don't think having incentives versus guarantees for a DL with injury history is a crazy ask. |

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
So with the way Scandrick's deal is structured, I read it as an insurance policy taken out against the development of Fabian Moreau. If Moreau develops like his talent would lead you to believe he's capable, then Scandrick would be relegated to slot duty and likely wouldn't trigger those playing time incentives.
But if Moreau (or Dunbar for that matter) can't develop into starting caliber CBs, then Scandrick will play more and thus trigger the incentives. That second scenario is not good for the Redskins, don't get me wrong. But if Scandrick is relegated to the slot, as would certainly be considered the team's Plan A, then the price is right.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
It's not a big long term deal though. He was clearly signed to be a depth guy. His cap hit is $1.75M for this year. Less than Scandrick.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
In other words, Dunbar's cap hit is the same as Tress Way's.

Thanks Schneed, I knew you'd dive into the cap stuff.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
It's business. I can't fault Galette for making the case that he deserves more. And I can't fault Allen for protecting the team. Supply and demand will cause them each to adjust their price accordingly until they're happy enough with a deal, or until he's happy with another team's deal.
Same thing with Hankins. If I'm Allen I'm more likely to increase my offer to him than I am for Galette. Allen has a high demand for Hankins services and Hankins is one of the few in the market who can do it so well. Allen will have to come up. Meanwhile Junior will likely have to come down - two blown achilles plus some off field incidents plus the availability of McPhee make it so.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
Original post updated again to reflect the signing of Pernell McPhee. Awaiting word on contract details. For now, estimating a cap hit of $2.5M.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
McPhee's details came out. He has a cap hit of 1.7M, but it's a 1 year deal. So DL still a major need for youth/draft

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
Thanks CRed. Yes, per John Keim the cap hit for Pernell McPhee will be $1.7M in 2018, lower than my estimate of $2.5M.
Also, trading Su'a Cravens clears $0.3M in cap space. We had to eat some dead money, but it's still less than what he would have cost us if he stayed on the roster. Negligible cap impact - the Su'a trade was obviously not cap-motivated. It was a football culture move, clear as day. Original post updated again to reflect these changes.

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
We definitely have space if we see an unexpected cut. If not I think Hankins signs before the draft on a 1 to 2 year deal

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status 2018
Hankins would prob command what? 5 or 6M a year? I'm sure we will get him if we really want him.
