Re: Did Gibbs Make the Wrong Call?
Biggest reason is turnovers. If we don't turn the ball over, we win the games we've lost this year (with the exception of NY Giants,) and we win those close games we've won this year, by more than 3 points.

Re: Did Gibbs Make the Wrong Call?
yeah you're right. Turnovers are killing us.. I'm not sure that either of those picks were brunell's fault though, he's thrown the same passes several times on those quick hits, and yeah Tampa was waiting for it, but both times they got some lucky ass breaks with the balls hitting them in the chest.

Yeah, those two INTs came off of deflicted passes. Those guys just were in the right place at the right time. Sometimes, luck is a part of being good. I do think we're a good team, we just haven't had enough of the good luck to come our way.

Re: Did Gibbs Make the Wrong Call?
Absolutely not. Frost punted a horrible ball when we really needed a long deep one in the Bucs side of the field. I believe they started on their 40yd line. That's the first mistake made by a player. The next of of course was on 3rd and 4 which no one mentioned. Walt Harris's dumb ass was off side which gave the Bucs a first down. You see Gibbs did his part. He coached them up after half time and the defense was playing decently for a while in the 3rd quarter. Then in the 4th, that's when all hell broke loose. Walt Harris, Carlos Rodgers and Pearson Priouleau were not on the same page. They did not bump Galloway at all at any time on any play that he caught 131yds of receptions on. That was the mistake of the players not Gibbs.

Re: Did Gibbs Make the Wrong Call?
Hey Guys, was able to get to a comp real quick, I'll have a full thread on my experiance in Tampa, which was incredible, loss aside ,when I go home Wen.
But just to chime in here quick. I thought we should have ran a boot, because it worked the ENTIRE game. I defintley understand why we ran it, but no so much why up the middle when we had so much success there the entire game. I just felt like we were kinda playing more conservative and not going with what had to that point won us the football game. I think we should have passed or ran to the outside, but whats done is done. I dont think it was stupid to run the ball because it kills clock, but it just NEVER seems to work when we go up the middle, ever. I'll talk to you boys in a couple days.

Re: Did Gibbs Make the Wrong Call?
Wrong call, every team knows Gibbs is going to run the ball in that situation. He has had very little success running on third and short when we have the lead late in the game. If we looked up the stat for three and outs late in a game I think we would find they are very high. Back when we had the Hogs and the could run at will it was the right call. D lineman have become bigger and quicker making that play alot tougher. I'm not saying always pass in that situation but mix it up some so th D's are not sure what we are going to do.

Re: Did Gibbs Make the Wrong Call?
We were having so much success running the ball throughout the entire game, so in my mind it was the logical thing to do.
If we would've passed and not made it....probably half of the people here would've been calling for Gibbs head. Its all hindsight.... |

What does the Philly game have to do with our game, you have to play the game we could have fumbled on the run, we could have had the pass intercepted if we passed. Look at the two point conversion in our game is that the norm, but doing something risky can also win you the game so look at the Tampa game. If I have learned anything when you start doing things different than you have done the whole game like we were mixing it up high percentage passes, some stretch plays, hitting the middle, spreading the ball around you lose. Then we go three straight plays nose dive into the guard and tackle when we had been converting first downs all game with what we were doing. Similar to the way some defenses do it and we did for many years in the past shut teams down and then go to a prevent defense and we would lose. To say three straight runs was the answer you are wrong we needed a first down, call plays to do that not run additional 25 seconds off the clock. As we have seen it was two minutes plus on the clock all the Bucs needed and many NFL teams is about in this case 58 seconds. All we did was give them time to drive the field twice on us so thank heavens we saved the 25 seconds. You can accomplish all the above if you can keep a defense on it's toes which we have not in this exact same situation in numerous games. Luckily the Eagles could not get in last week ina very similar situation with us. Luckily the Seahawks missed the field goal, we put the ball back in the Cowboys hands, we put the ball back in Tampas hands. If you look back at those stalled drives you will see very simialr play calling I call that predictable in that situation. |
