You wont have a money issue until its time for Colt to get a new deal. Obviously if Colt fails then you turn to Sudfield to see what you have in him. If he plays well, then you may have a solution for a while, until it comes contract time and then maybe it's rinse and repeat with whatever possible QB's you have on the roster at that time.

Say for example this works, i wonder if it would change how the league pays QB's. What i am getting at - if a team can get quality / solid play out of QB's who sign lower money contracts, then what is the need to pay a guy 25 - 30 million a season if a team is able to win, or go to a Superbowl with a guy who is only making 2 or 3 million? You could then use that money to load up on other talent...

I'd they go with McCoy. They might as well fire Jay Gruden and start looking for a new head coach. Just because McCoy is cheaper, doesn't make it a better situation. Especially with 70 million in cap we will have even in the offseason.

You build a team to win games. You don't just say "fuck it" Let's roll with our 2nd string journeyman this year.

That might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. If I'm not sugar coating it. Be the laughing stock of the NFL to tag Kirk for 20 mil this year, just to let the guy who threw for 5k yards go, and run with McCoy because he's cheaper. Holy lawl.

It is ridculous, that's why i wanted to try and clarify with my post that it is not my wish or me saying "it's a good idea", i just get asked alot at work being one of the only redskins fans what we will do at QB if we let Cousins go. That's why i'm saying that could be one possible option, run with McCoy while they try and figure out who their long-term guy is. I was just saying that if they win with McCoy, then the problem might appear to be solved for a while.

If having a revolving door for inexpensive journeyman QB's works, then the Cleveland Browns would be Super Bowl Champions.

How did that work out in Houston over the last several seasons when the Texans wasted a dominating defense?

A capable and experienced QB is a must to win a title. If you have one, then you have no choice but to keep him and pay him the market rate for his services. It's hard for me to imagine that Kirk Cousins is playing to keep his job at this point. Instead, he is playing to determine the rate for his services going forward.

Some people realize his value, but they seem terrified about a few million dollar difference in paying him. That is a real head scratcher because what can you do with that few mill if you let KC walk? Sign another high price free agent(if one is available) that has no experience in this offense- or sign a journeyman for a lot less and use the extra money for some upgrade at ILB or DB? No thanks. With Brian Hoyer (for example) we have no chance of winning even if it allows to upgrade a position somewhere else. QB is too important.
Another option would be draft one I guess or go with Sudfeld - no thanks again. Not in the mood to start over.
The only option is that some stud, can't miss qb falls to us in the draft or some stud young free agent is available for us to pick up? Neither of those things is very likely to happen.
There are no better options than paying KC and adding a few pieces thru the draft/FA and keeping this TEAM together to grow.
Not one person, who is not on board with KC, (on here or in the media), has offered up any realistic scenario where we get better with KC gone next year. Because there aint one.

So let me get this straight..there are some of you that actually prefer Colt over Kirk?? Do you realize that Kirk surrounded by an average team is on pace to break all time redskin passing records..he already has some of the records from last year! the biggest knock against Kirk seems to be his long ball because the rest of his game is top notch. for the record McCoy does not have the arm Kirk Has . At least Kirk can throw the ball long it just seems they never hook up but it keeps the D honest. unless We have to pay Cousins some crazy amount I for one think he has played his way into a nice contract . We need this position to be stable so we can focus on other needs..

Sometimes thoughts get lost in translation. Unless it is Schneed - there really isn't more than one way to read most of his posts. "You are a dumb asshole" is very straight forward". Lol.
I am not defending SS either. Just saying that I do not believe he thinks Colt is better than Cousins. I do not believe anyone does. Not on here anyway.
SS appears to be searching for a way that we can save 15 mill to bolster our D, and let a run of the mill qb like Hoyer or Colt hold the fort down until we find another Cousins. Problem is we have Cousins! We can still improve the rest of the team through the draft, and just good old fashioned continuity and familiarity. SS is going backwards instead of forwards. It is a habit that we have formed as Skins fans watching the organization do just that for 20 years. We have something building here. Let it grow!

Yeah, it seems like we don't allow ourselves to consider our team a good team. Some mistakes aren't helping us do that, but we have one of the top offenses in the league right now, let's believe in this team, it will develop and become a really good team, the answer is there, not outside the team.

I do not think McCoy is better than cousins. Not in the least. The mike jones article said that the redskins have "options", and I felt McCoy was one of those options. I want cousins to stay but I do not think the skins want him here anymore. I am sorry if my posts haven't indicated well enough that I think cousins is the answer.

Tell me if I'm missing something, but from what I understand we have more cap space than we've had for the past few years (16M this year, around 53 as of now for next year), so why are we so scared to pay KC? Do we really have a better (or even just slightly worse) option at a better price?

I mean this is not Madden, unless you have a Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodger (the real one not his twin brother playing for him this year) caliber guy, you don't just change QB and yyypppeee your team is better. It takes time for the new guy to get in rhythm with his teammates, for his teammates to get in rhythm with him, and for both sides to trust the other.
