can someone please explain to me exactly what gibbs did, i cant watch the game and from the looks of things on here im glad. all i caught was the ending kick but that was after the penalty.
What happened was Gibbs had the official right next to him, called a TO right before the kicker attempted a 51 yarder. They took the TO, commercial break, etc. Then the kicker lined up again, and the officials came running in. Joe Gibbs called two consecutive timeouts. Which everyone knows is a 15 yard penalty.

Re: Let's win for Sean: Bills vs. Redskins game thread

This loss is ironic. With about 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, I turned to my dad and said, "I cannot believe this, we still have 3 timeouts. We normally have about one right now." And what costs us the game? THE FACT THAT WE STILL HAD TIMEOUTS LEFT!!!! The one game when we actually have all our timeouts towards the end of the 4th quarter, we don't really need them, and then we use one to lose the game!!! The reason Gibbs didn't know about that rule is because we've never had that many timeouts late in the game to worry about it!!!

Re: Let's win for Sean: Bills vs. Redskins game thread

Sigh. Disappointment is starting to become a very common feeling for me on Sunday afternoons. With all that this team has been through, I have to believe that they weren't prepared to play the game today. And that is totally understandable, if I was a player there's no way I would feel that I could give my best effort almost a week after losing someone like Sean.

This game showed us more of the issues we've seen all year. Halftime leads, letting the other team get back into it in the second half, it's a problem that hasn't gone away and isn't likely to go away this season. I'm not really worried about the playoffs, I just wish the season was kinda over right now so that these guys could get away and have some time with themselves to grieve. I know that the guys in that locker room are feeling just as, if not worse, than I feel right now, and maybe some time away would be able to help. I don't think after the way that we played today that we will be able to get back into the playoff race, and I hope that the end of the season gets here quick so we won't have to watch our team lose anymore games in this heartbreaking fashion anymore.

I mean the sad part is, I wasn't surprised at all when I heard it. Here at work I caught the moment of silence at other games and every stadium was completely silent

Re: Let's win for Sean: Bills vs. Redskins game thread

Guys, its been a tough week for the entire Redskin family. We all need to calm down. I realize that people wanted us to win, but that didn't happen. I thought that this week would have at least taught us that football is just a game. There are more thn 53 men out there today who were still nursing an extremely deep wound. It would have been great to win one for Sean, but that didn't happen, and thats trivial now.

I also realize that many of you may have been depending on this game as a possible means of upliftment after a hard week, and you have taken it to heart that we have lost. Don't! Watch the memorial service tomorrow, and come to closure with the issue, but don't expect these players, who were much, much closer to the man than you were, to close the issue for you. These guys came out and played hard; as hard as one could possibly do after dealing with intense heartbreak. Don't blame them, or the coaching staff for this loss.

Guys, girls, you can't be a true fan and give up on your team, ever. This is a site for true, knowledgeable fans, not ranting bandwagonists, so if you fall into that category, please leave the site. No disrespect to you, but when people like that post, it negatively affects the board and the posters, and unecessarily so.

Sorry if this was incoherent, had a lot to say

Not incoherent at all...very good post.

I am not going to criticize any member of the organization because of this loss. They played their hearts out but came up short against a defense who shut our run game down and made some big plays. During the moment of silence, you could see many of the members of the team in tears, a few seconds later they had to think about playcalling and techniques, not an easy thing to do. A few idiots made noise during the moment of silence, but if you looked at the crowd throughout the whole game, the FAR majority of them were there to honor Sean and they did with respect.

Smootsmack, be careful speaking about a few of our fans with anger and emotion and condemning all of us. The Redskins fanbase has proven to be loyal and the best in football over and over throughout the years, so to speak the way you did, although your emotions warrant it, has no basis in fact.

I have a great respect for you and what you bring to the site, but if you're that angry, you may need to just let the site go for a day or two and let your anger subside. For the most part, we have a great community here and we wouldn't want anyone to be driven away in a time where we should be here to support each other and the team.

Football is not important right now. They performed well considering the circumstances and the outcome showed what we've seen in the past few weeks while Sean was injured...he was a difference maker and probably the key to our defense. He'll be missed greatly, on the field and in the locker room, as well as by his family.

I don't care if the team wins or loses right now, I just want them to be OK after such a tragic loss.

Well I tried to make it clear that I wasn't speaking about all fans, just many of them. It is my personal opinion that, if asked to make a general statement about the fans, I would say that overall they are pretty lame. Of course, that doesn't mean each and every one is. I know I'm not . I mean this is a great site with many great members (yourself included), but it does change the fact that there have been and still are plenty who are, well, lame.

Again this is just my opinion from 25 years of being a fan of the team. You may think otherwise.

And quite honestly, sometimes I like the freedom to just take off my moderator hat and get to act human. A lot of people come on here and get all emotional after a loss. I should be granted that right on occassion as well.

I completely agree that what's most important is the mental and emotional well being of the team. Not the fans, the team.

I agree with you about many things, including avoiding the game threads until the next day after the game is over. Hearing the remarks like "bench Portis" and "fire Gibbs" when we don't convert a 3rd down or even lose a game is sickening.

Yes, there are plenty of disrespectful Skins fans, the same who won't remove their hats for the National Anthem or use turn signals. Every team has them though and from what I see, we have base of MORE loyal, MORE respectful and overall MORE just civilized fans. Our bad ones aren't anywhere near as bad as Philly's, Dallas', New England's, Oakland's...

I hope you didn't take my post as a personal attack or any type of anger or hatred for you. It wasn't meant that way. I am also emotionally drained from the week as a fan and frustrated with our loss (of Sean, not the game which I think the guys performed admirably considering the circumstances).

I've been a Skins fan for over 20 years as well. I'm seen a few bad apples, but for the most part, we have a great fan base in my opinion. Our organization is respectable too, moreso when Gibbs is a part of it. Even if they don't win, we always show sportsmanship and class. You never see our players being suspended or arrested and we do a ton of charity work, probably more than other teams.
