I really believe that the analysis report should have said he won't be a penetrating NT in a 3-4. I think that's ok, because we want a guy who stuffs the middle and allows our LB's (ie Orakpo) to utilize their speed and power.

Maybe that line just wasn't clear enough, but to take it as a repudiation of everything else written, or as a rationale to downgrade the pick seems to me to reflect the type of snap to judgement thinking that the Skins under Snyder/Cerrato showed. Don't look at a guy cuz analysts don't see elite disciplines. This is a pick that when you look deeper, you find a team leader, a dedicated worker, and a guy who should fit our team, not the all-madden team.

it also could be a typo where the writer meant 4-3, because the context of the paragraph JR just copied would be more often associated with a 4-3 DT, or a 3-4 DE.

It's been reported that was an actual comment Shanahan made in reference to Royster.

That would be nice , I read ( can't remember where ) , that Royster is exceptional in pass protection as well as catching passes out of the backfield . We should have a nice rotation ( Torian / K. Williams ) ,who knows , maybe J. Davis ( Clemson 2nd /yr ) will make an impact , ran 4.3 40 at Clemson .

I want to be optimistic but, why will these guys crack the lineup and contribute significantly when guys drafted last year couldn't do it?

Considering that most 4th and lower rounders aren't expected to be starters, it's not that bad. We only had one high round pick, and he(Trent) had a good rookie season. This year, we can at least hope our top 3 picks will be studs for us.

I think Cleveland and Detroit both had very good drafts

I think Helu and Royster will both contribute and turn into good picks. Overall I think we did a pretty good job this year.
