Actually I am not a stat guy, I look at how a player contributes to his team and that can come in many different forms, but to some how say that because a player set a team record makes him elite, well maybe it does and maybe it doesn't, but if he's the only one being thrown to well that might change things a bit don't you think? It also might make a defenses job a little easier to stop us knowing Brunell has a 1 track mind.

Bottom line whoever want's to believe that Brunell is a good QB can, I don't care, that's your buisness, if you some how want to believe that wasen't Brunell out there the last 3 games go ahead. He had 4 big games all season lost 1 and Ramsey played half of the other.

If you feel his performance in the last 3 games is somehow in any way indicative of a quality NFL QB, let alone a QB that is going to lead us to a SB congradulations with that and good luck!
Well, that's interesting.

Let me jump off track here just a little, Offiss. I, like yourself, am not really a stat guy. But you mentioned earlier that ultimatley we should measure Brunells worth in terms of wins/losses. Tom Brady and Brunell had the same exact records this year. Now if I were to take your statement literally, I would have to believe that you think Tom B. and Mark B. are equals.

Am I correct in assuming that or am I reaching a little too much here?

Kind of a stupid question but I will indulge,

Who were the wins and loses against, and how were those games won? Yes most of the Pat's wins are directly attributed to Brady's play and his ability to move an offense as well as control the ball and keep it away from opposing teams, especially this past season, the Pat's until late didn't have their standard shutdown defense going for them, with all the injuries that team had it was a major accomplishment to keep them afloat and finish where they did, and for the record they didn't need to win their last game and took it easy, that is the only reason they finished tied with us, if Brunell was Brady like, maybe we could have rested before the playoffs as well.

Our defense was better than the Pat's D this year.

We might take a look at what Brady did with Patton, compared to what Brunell was doing before he was hurt.

I don't know, mentioning Brady in the same breath with Brunell seems kind of ridiculous don't you think?

Not quite as ridiculous as mentioning Ramsey and Aikman in the same breath.

That can't be as bad as mentioning Ramsey and Aikman in the same breath.

Exactly my point, it is ridiculous. For the record, I think Brady's a better QB.

I do, however, find it interesting and funny how you make allowances for Brady and the Pats, but you make none for Brunell.

Re: Will Saunders Affect Our QB Situation?

We ran pretty well all year even when there was 7 or 8 in the box.

Perhaps the loss of Thomas coupled with Portis' banged up shoulders limited our usual effectiveness in the running game.

Nah, let's just blame Brunell.

Re: Will Saunders Affect Our QB Situation?

Every team in the league uses the same tactic against good running teams. However, that should not be an excuse for not being able to make plays in the offense. Pittsburgh runs the ball more than any team in the league, they stack the line against them as well but they still run it. They're successful at it because they also make plays in th passing game. JG seeks balance in his offense, and the only way to achieve that the O-line has to be equally adapt at both pass and run blocking, plus you need a QB who is not limited to just certain kind of throws. There are pass plays that Gibbs cannot run in his current offense because our QB lacks the arm strength or accuracy to make the pin-point throws neccessary to make them work. As much as I like Brunell for his leadership and ability to manage the game with limited mistakes, his passes for distance has too much of a hump allowing DB's too much time to react while the pass is in the air.

Re: Will Saunders Affect Our QB Situation?

News flash everyone, in case you didn't realize it offiss is a Brunell hater.

None of our success this year can be attributable to Brunell. Yeah I know, a 3000 yard passer with 23 TDs and only 10 INTs has to be given some credit, right?

Nope.

Don't look at the stats... yeah I know that's a common way to measure a player but you have to ignore the facts here and trust that we somehow managed to win 10 regular season games and a playoff game with absolutely no meaningful contribution from the QB position whatsoever.

Don't look at the entire season either as a gauge for Brunell's success. Forgot about those 8 games in which he posted a 90 or better QB rating. Instead, let's judge his season on his worst 3 performances when the entire offense was struggling and serveral key players including Brunell himself was banged up. That's where you see the true measure of a QB, that's where you see what kind of QB Mark Brunell is.

Brunell hater or Ramsey lover? Does Ramsey live in New Jersey? Sometimes I think so...

I normally don't chime in, but I enjoy reading and laughing.

Your forgetting about the rest of his lowsey performances, I think he's had 4 real nice games in 2 years, but he's the man!

As if you wouldn't throw him under the truck like you did with Ramsey the second Gibbs makes a switch.

[Matty72wrote]Brunell thinks he can still start, problem for him is who would want him as their starter?? If he demands a trade, do you think anybody would be willing to take on his salary?
Obviously Matty you would.

Matty is man enough at least to appreciate that Brunell did a very good job this year and proved a lot of doubters wrong. A lot of doubters, but not all apparently

Even If he Loses and Fumbles 3 times in a game it's never Brunells fault....No receivers...Or maybe the offensive line....He's A 1st Ballot Hall of Famer

Obviously you're glossing over any of the perceived anti-Ramsey takes.

I'm well aware he had some bad outings this year, I've repeatedly said that.

But by in large the good outweighed the bad, we did go 10-6 and won a playoff game... so some of the credit has to go his way, that's all I'm saying. Some people are refusing to acknowledge he had a good year.

Exactly! The same excuses people use for Ramsey not starting, TO's and such, are never ackowledged when brunell is turning it over at the same rate or worse, and Brunell is the experienced veteran, those things shouldn't be happening at this stage of his carreer, Ramsey still has a chance to better himself.
