Macs ain't gonna' be any better. We have them both here and they have overheating problems just like PCs. What model is your machine?

Run this program:

Dell Inspiron Inspiron/Latitude/Precision fan control

And then send me the results of your test.

Re: Need Computer help

Hey guys, so I am using my desktop now. Still havent fixed my laptop, someone told me I should do a hardware check or whatever. I was told this is quite expensive, especially at Best Buy or a place like that.

Apparently it is either my graphics card or the physical hard drive. Anyone know a good small place in NOVA that could do it for cheap?

My Anti-virus is gonna run out in 15 days so I need a good free one. I heard the one AOL is letting people have for free is good. Someone told me it the same as some other software, but AOL just bought the rights to it. Said it was top notch, anyone else here about this?
AVG is an awesome free one...I use it.

Re: Need Computer help

btw, didn't back read this thread, but for a LAPTOP, DO NOT use drivers from nvidia.com. most of the time they won't work (it'll tell you it won't work in the setup). for laptops, you kinda have to use whatever the manufacturer gives you on their website, even though it probably isn't updated very often.

it might be different if you have one of those 3,000$ dual gfx card desktop replacements, but if you did, you'd already know about it's driver situation .

Re: Need Computer help

after further review:

I'd check out avast... the AVG doesn't have anti-spyware available and a few other things you have to pay for... avast gives you all of that for free...

Re: Need Computer help

That's the only difference for me and Avast. I feel like I'm a smart browser and XP SP2 as well as Vista have built-in tools that will prevent spyware, thus I wouldn't want to add anything else to take up system resources.
