Re: Should the Redskins consider LSU Safety Laron Landry with the 6th overall pick
i hardly ever post here but check it out everyday. the point of a thread is to see different opinions and try to see all sides. that said, you porterhouse are an ignorant douchebag. i got into a heated debate with someone a while ago and said some stuff that was unnecesary and got a polite message from smootsmack saying to please refrain. that's it. like i said, i don't hardly post but check it out everyday and see the same people everyday. same opinion or not. i do hope you get banned though.

Re: Should the Redskins consider LSU Safety Laron Landry with the 6th overall pick
Yeah, it would be nice to have another top end safety, but, I may be a puppet here, I think that a DT or DE would be best for our D. Before everyone starts calling me "Pinocchio" hear me out. I look at the Pittsburgh Steelers D. I mean for the longest time there secondary sucked. Thier corners got beat like they stole something. But thier D was always in the top 10. That is because they had a very good front 7 that could rush the QB. IMO, you do not need to have top secondary players if your front 7 keeps the QB on his back or on the run.
So I believe that by drafting a stud DT or DE that will indirectly help out secondary...

Re: Should the Redskins consider LSU Safety Laron Landry with the 6th overall pick
I agree. We have a physical enough secondary that if they don't have to run around for 8-10 seconds during every pass play because there isn't any pocket pressure they should be pretty good.

Very similiar with Jacksonville's D as well. They have an outstanding front 7 which makes their corners look decent. When the corner leaves and plays for a team with a terrible D-line, his sub-par play becomes spotlighted. On the other hand, secondary and D-line compliment each other. If the secondary is truly a shut down unit then the QB has to go through more reads to find the open man. Which means more time for the "sack masters" to get to him. If the sack masters can get to the QB faster then the secondary doesn't have to cover as long. It's very similiar to peanut butter and jelly. Both can be okay individually but together they form the perfect combination.

Re: Should the Redskins consider LSU Safety Laron Landry with the 6th overall pick
i had a dream last night that i had to make the draft choice out of nowhere, and for some reason the first 5 picks were defensive ends, and i took landry...maybe its a sign

Re: Should the Redskins consider LSU Safety Laron Landry with the 6th overall pick
Think about it guys, The Washington Redskins made AA the highest paid safety in NFL history last year!
We obviously value that position tremendouly. Not out of this world we go with Landry at # 6. Just think about it........ Springs isn't the answer, he's capable but not the long term fix. |

Re: Should the Redskins consider LSU Safety Laron Landry with the 6th overall pick
Just a thought, Is this talk of Landry with the #6 pick just a means to leverage the Falcons for a 1st round Swap and additional picks?
I agree Landry is good but isn't he worth passing up on if we could acquire another Day 1 pick in the process? Also what the hell is this talk of us moving up to get Jamarcus Russell? Please tell me thats a joke.

Re: Should the Redskins consider LSU Safety Laron Landry with the 6th overall pick
Let me expand on the reason why I like the idea of Landry. FS with his skills don't come around every year, especially when your in a postion to draft them. If we draft him, IMO we would be set in the secondary for the next ten years. We could have average corners, which to me are a dime a dozen like decent RB's, and always expect plays to be made by our defensive secondary. It is also a "safer" pick because you can almost garauntee that Landry is going to be a stud. I don't know if the same can be said for any of the DL prospects. It would be an unorthodox set up, I mean, who has two probowl safties? But I honestly think it would work. Landry is the ballhawking FS and Taylor can MASH people all day long, and still give you coverage when you need it. Now, if we go for it and we completely blow this year, next year we'll be in position to go after DL early in the first and second rounds of the draft, as well as look at free agents. Do you really think that taking a DL would make or break this season? I like our chances now and in the future on D with Landry and Taylor back there. DL can and will be addressed. You don't HAVE TO take one in this years first round.
On top of all that it would just be fun to see how a Defense employed two safties of that caliber. I imagine it would give opposing teams fits, especially a little further down the road once we beef up our pass rush. It doesn't all have to be done in one offseason. Can you imagine those two back there once the front seven catches up and generates and NFL pass rush? |

Come on now, are we banking on Omar? He stinks! I don't like that signing at all. PP, his knee injury is the most severe you can have. I think our D line is not that bad......we're aging but not terrible. Daniels and Carter can get it done. Griffin needs to stay healthy but he's a probowler......the new guy at tackle was good also. Having Fletcher anchor our D from the middle is very solid. Best signing for us in a long while....... I'd love to see us take a chance with Landry but would not be heart broken with Gaines Adams or Branch. |

Well there's still the slighty outside the box thinking of moving Springs to safety.
Or we could go really crazy and move LeMar Marshall back to his college position of safety Seriously though, is there any team we can trade down with that would give us picks and a veteran safety?

The sentence above reeks of a move for Dre Bly...#21 and Bly for #6...

I don't know how you are evaluating these players. We had the flat out worst defensive line in the league last year. We were horrible vs. the run, and horrible vs. the pass. We need fresh blood. Stoutmire isn't the starter at safety. Prioleau is coming off a major injury (in September of last year, he's already 6+ months into his recovery), but will likely be fine for next season. The point is, we had Archuleta on the roster. We could have kept him as an established talent and given him a shot to win his job back. But we traded him and took his cap hit. That move SCREAMS confidence in our guys already at the position. Whenever it's cheaper to keep an incumbant starter, and he's cut anyway, rest assured that the solution is in house. Prioleau will be ready to go. Unless we want the defense to be horrible again, we have to plan to add help in the trenches. I would get help at DT, but we are going to need to address both positions over the next few years, so it wouldn't kill me if they picked at end. The worst thing we could do would be to not get any fresh blood on the DL in this draft. Again, I wouldn't expect a big DL improvement this year because rookies tend to have minimal impact, but getting fresh blood is paramount so that in 2008 and 2009, our defense isnt still horrible. Daniels and Wynn are all but cooked. Carter is one dimensional. Griffin may never be the player of 2004-05 again, and we don't have a good option at the 2nd DT. We could use help anywhere. That's the state of this defense right now.

Re: Should the Redskins consider LSU Safety Laron Landry with the 6th overall pick
i think we only move springs to safety if we bring in a top corner. hes the only #1 corner we have. rogers and smoot would be ok, but who would be the nickel? the ade? stoutmire?
