Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
I think this was a function our LBs being 100% better than last year. I think ST led the team in tackles in like 13 games last year. The other three were like 1 LB and 2 other Safties. This game our LBs were making the tackles. That is good.

I think the safeties weren't much of a factor because they were going with short passes and runs up the middle a lot. When our safeties played deep they didn't throw deep.

I haven't been able to confirm this, but rumor I'm hearing is it was disciplinary. Springs missed a meeting or something like that. But I'm not sure

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
They made the call, which in itself made little sense, and I said aloud to everyone around. "That f*cking John Riggins keeps jumping out of the booth and f*cking us every year." Dumb ass refs. The funny thing was watching them call the penalty on us then watching everyone reset to punt over and watching the one ref who threw the flag about 60 yards downfield looking around like "WTF?". Then he sprints up field and blows the whistle and waves his rams like an idiot. Classic.

Oh geez. I am cool with like a quarter for that kind of thing but the whole game? If he were a constant trouble maker then maybe. I can't decide whether I hope this is the real explanation or not.

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Well the only other possible one is that he was a bit dinged up.

Well I've only heard it from one person. And it's not someone I 100% believe or can count on without confirming with someone else

I wonder if he had to help or simply wanted to help his dad get to Dallas. Drop him off at the airport or whatever. Sometimes you break the rules for a good reason but from a management perspective you still need to be punished.

My comment is "what the hell" are you guys complaining about. We physically abused them and won the game. If you are looking for style points you need to follow another team.

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
0 penalties in the first half and like 6 penalties in the second half, WTH? how does a team just become so undisciplined.
Also this WTH doesn't pertain to the Skins game, but I want to make a point of it nonetheless, because I feel it was horrible officiating. In the Bears-Chargers game, the Chargers had the ball on like the Bears 2 yard line, and one of the Bears jumped the snap really early, like there was no doubt in my mind that he started before the rest of the players started. Then everyone started moving and at the end of it, the Bears player had the ball and was saying it was a fumble by the Chargers and the Bears had recovered. The refs talked it over for a while and the Bears got to keep the ball, even though it was plain and clear that one of the Bears had jumped pre-snap and had gotten a hold of the ball when everyone started moving. I believe that was one of the worst officiating calls I've seen, and even though it didn't cost the Chargers the game, it's still something that shouldn't happen again. Also I want to say Fred Smoot WTH? How many times have you done the interception drill and this time you let the ball hit your chest and bounce off? If we had lost the game I would be extremely pissed at that, but because we won I'm only disappointed in him. Also his play was not good today, and I seriously want to see him as the nickel corner from now on. If what Smootsmack is saying about Springs not starting because of disciplinary problems, then I hope he doesn't have any more for the rest of the season because we really need him back there. While our run defense is extremely stout, our pass defense still isn't what it should be.

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
If we were playing a team better than Miami we very easily could've lost this game. We play Philly next week, and if we play like that next week expect to lose. If we want to be contenders this season we must improve our play.

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Yeah, this was definitely a very bizarre game. We need to step it up on offense if we want to compete with Philli.
I also thought it was pretty hilarious when Ladell Betts trucked Chris Samuels. What the hell was that?

Re: The week 1 "what the hell?" thread
Well, it's cause of our mishaps. Too many penalties and dropped balls...we correct those, and I think we played well enough to beat anyone.
