That's more common sense than I've read here all night. Kudos.

Re: Classless Coach Belichick

you know, though guys... we did score like 52 points on a pathetic 49er team a couple of years ago. I don't think we went for it on fourth in the redzone ahead by forty, nor would we have, but we buried that team and scored in the fourth quarter there as well...

I DO think since everyone was saying they hadn't played a D like ours yet they were out to prove a point, and they did it...

I'm more pissed that the skins allowed them to do it than the fact that they did it...

I'm also extremely pissed that it didn't seem like our coaching staff was getting pissed through the playcalling (defensively)... again, the only thing that would've made me feel better was to send a message back, instead of lying there crying like the fucking whipping boy.

I was talking with some friends before the game and they pointed out several instances, throughout the week where it sounded like our team had no confidence we could win the game...

a couple of 4-3 ain't bad comments and gibbs saying no one had a game plan for them, etc...

we need to grow some balls collectively and let this loss and embarrassment fuel a fire that burns for the rest of the season in our guts and start playing 60 minutes of football every week for the rest of the season.

Amen to that. It would have gone a long way for Greg Williams to go "WTF, lets blitz every f***ing play!" Or, if Gibbs had got in Belichick's face after the game. But unfortunately, none of that happened and face it folks, we look like a bunch of p*ssies. Does anyone really think that any team in the NFL actually fears us anymore? Seriously!

Gibbs has never in his career taken the approach of "We're going to stomp these guys into obilvion" Not publicly. He's always shown respect for the caliber of the opposition

I don't think the Redskins sent a "message" back for two reasons. 1.) They were so depleted as it was with Smoot, Rogers, and Rocky out and exhausted from being on the field so much that they probably didn't have the energy to do it. 2.) I'm sure they were told not to stoop to the Patriots' level

When we scored 52 on the 49ers, Ramsey played the 4th quarter and something like 23 of our final 25 plays from scrimmage were basic running plays

Zero confidence seems not to have started with the team. When interviewed earlier this week, Gibbs told a reporter, "If you have answers to winnning against the Pats, leave them here." Or something to that effect. Talk about a tone-setter.

I agree and think they entered with that sentiment to some extent plus what I said earlier definitely influenced the outcome.

He's been that way with the media for 25 years. This didn't just happen this week

What's your point that they were not playing the Patriots?

I agree, and it wouldn't change for another 25. It's just that his usual grim reaperness was a little more grim this week.

doesn't make it right...

It just doesnt instill confidence in your team... You could say something like "they are an excellent football team and were gonna have to come out and execute our gameplan perfectly"

instead of basically saying "we're screwed... we cant think of any way to beat them and neither can anyone else"

It was like he was preemptively taking heat off of the players for a loss that hadn't happened yet, and then with Carlos Rogers pulling a Man-Ram talking about how this game wasn't the end of the world and 4-3 is still good before the game... I kinda felt like that was the tone set, and that starts at the top.

I agree, the players should be getting fired up for the game and wanting to win. Teams that cuase upsets dont go and say to themselves were basically screwed, they try to pump themselves up to play to a level that might be beyond them. Football is a game that can still be about who wants it more, and the pats really wanted it more then us.

Although I still say we should have went after their season by just roughing Brady up a little and make them pull him or risk injury.

Re: Classless Coach Belichick

Yeah, he ran up the score. But this kind of thing happens in the NFL. Lots of other teams are feeling the same way, and every week that goes by, more people are gunning for the Patriots. Belicheck and his players like it that way.

I don't know about throwing everybody against them for all-out blitzes in the fourth quarter. That reeks of desperation. But the team that beats them is going to have to START with a determination to play ugly. I mean Buddy Ryan, body-bag ugly. Jerry Glanville, trash-talk ugly. I mean Bill Walsh, crackback block ugly. You notice how after every play the Pats players pat the defenders on the rear and say good job? All part of the mind games they play. Slap 'em back, and go for the knees on the next play. Rattle em up, take em out of their game. They're already motivated, so you can't make it any worse.

The Colts may pull it off, but from the way they're talking, I'm looking for Ray Lewis and the gang to cause Brady some pain.

I know you weren't making a direct comparison, but I'm glad you brought up that game because I had wanted to previously. It actually is a PERFECT example of sportsmanship and how you can score 52 points and do it with CLASS. Go look at the play-by-play of that game. The Redskins did score 17 points in the second half (you might say they ONLY scored 17 in the second half when they could have scored a lot more). But they attempted only 5 passes in the second half. They got a turnover and started with the ball on the SF 3 yard line in the third quarter and scored, they started at mid-field with 8:55 to go in the 3rd quarter and scored a field goal, BUT they ran the ball SEVEN of nine plays on that drive, they also DID NOT attempt to go for it on fourth and 3 from the SF 9 yard line (sound like a familiar situation?). They then scored again on a drive that started at the WAS 49 with 13:02 to go in the 4th, BUT they did so by running the ball six straight times with LADELL BETTS AND ROCK CARTWRIGHT because Clinton Portis and Brunell were out of the game. When they got the ball with 2:00 minutes to go in the fourth quarter Patrick Ramsey kneeled the ball three times and ended the game.

For all of those who didn't understand what was wrong with the Patriots going for it on 4th or running up the score and were anxious to understand why everyone was mad; for all of those who wanted to know "where is the line" and say we should "stop whining," take a look at the Skins-Niners game from 2005. That is how you win with class, that is sportsmanship, that is how you respect the game of football. Had the Patriots done what the Skins had in 2005 but still scored no one would have a problem here. If you still can't figure it out then I can't help you.
