I like the pick. If for no other reason than the fact that we took a kid with talent and now can't trade the pick away in desperation when someone on our OLine get hurts.

Unfortunately, we will now be forced to trade a 2nd rounder (Is there a Jason Taylor equivalent for the O-Line?)

If this is posted somewhere, I apologize for the re-post. Here is the transcript of the announcement that he was getting a year suspension. It doesn't really say much about his NFL abilities, but I thought the praises from his coach and his acknowledgement of the issue were very good signs. I LOVE KOOL-AID! (53Fan pass me that stuff next, don't worry about BHA, it won't do no good there!)

Q: Just to be clear, did their test verify that it was something found in the dietary supplement?

“Yes. Let me be abundantly clear, this guy has been a model of discipline for our program. He has never had a disciplinary action and he has never even come close to failing the test before. It has never been an issue. This is a three week isolated deal that is very unfortunate. He has been unbelievable for the University of Kentucky. Do not lose sight of that. I don't know anyone that could represent this program better than he has in a lot of different ways and I am thankful for that and that he knows that.”

Just to add to that. After working Jarmon out, Palermo had this to say about him, "I think he's smart, he's tough, he's willing to listen and he's willing to work." As Vinny said, those are 4 things you really like to hear. I'm feeling better about this pick all the time. I mean WTH, we're due to have some things go our way aren't we?

Everyone says he has a non-stop motor ! He is also only 20 yrs old , should get bigger - stronger and faster over the next few years , while learning from Danials / Wynn / Carter and Griffen . We add Big AL , Orakpo , get Rocky back at 100% , D.Hall < 4 starts last year > and young guys like Horton , Moore and Barnes ,,,, the Defense should be awesome !!

Also from that article:

Normally, we would not have a press conference to discuss this kind of issue, but Jeremy requested the opportunity to speak to it and with all the contributions and the things he's given this program, we felt he earned and deserved the right to do that. The way he had represented this program and how much it meant to him, we wanted to make sure that he had the opportunity to speak to the people he loves dearly in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the fans that have supported him, his teammates, coaches and staff.
Lets hope he sees the Redskins in this light and does outstanding work here.

I like this movie...Skins continue to spread their risk by adding two DE/LB type of players. If i'm not mistaken Jarmon was on track to being a 1st round pick. I give it two thumbs up.

From Adam Schefter's Twitter page:
Washington had draft pegged pretty good, drafting Jeremy Jarmon in round 3. Five teams put in claims to draft Jarmon in round 4. Washington won him.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

I'm not exactly sure that we're the best fit for him, given the potential turnover on our defensive coaching staff within a year or two, but my only concern is that we might have overpaid a bit.

Because outside of that, SEC defensive linemen tend to have no issue making the jump to the next level and and Jarmon appears to be no exception.

With 5 teams ready to take him in the 4th it seems like we paid the necessary price to get him.

Of course. I'm just suggesting that he might have been overvalued by multiple teams with less talent than use due to the fact that they plan on using him this year. Whereas, he fits into our puzzle as a depth guy in year one. So we might have been able to get a comparable player in say, the 4th or 5th round next year had we waited.

But, again, if the guy turns out to be an average 2nd round talent (2-3 wins added over the next 4.5 seasons), you aren't going to hear not one complaint out of me.

Kudos to the FO for putting the chips in the middle here, but they better be right on their assessment.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

I'm good with the pick--stack the D and hopefully we can win some games with less offense, giving Zorn more time to get it going.

Vinny clearly is of the "bird in the hand" school--at least the guy is young!

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

So, I guess what I'm saying is that if the Redskins get the guy they think they have, I see no reason to think that Vinny's assessment of his second round talent is off the mark.

Only that we might have been able to turn next years third rounder into a comparable player.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

I like this move. We are essentially redshirting him, I look at him as a 2010 third rounder that we get to have for an extra year to get a head start on his development. And if he actually gets some decent pt this season and gets off to a good start then even better.
