it's weird that they would both say it on the same day, and i thought jc and cooley were boys, i know half the team is done with portis

Portis was a lot more blunt that Cooley, that's for sure. Don't have a transcript of either. But Portis basically said (and Doc Walker was talking about it as well) Campbell is not ready to be a team captain. He doesn't step up on behalf of his teammates and talk to the coaches. Doc talked about how Theismann went to Gibbs' home unannounced one night and said you have to believe in me, said Campbell would never do anything like that

really??

found this doesn't have anything that doc said though

Reports: Shanahan Agrees to Coach Redskins - ABC News

seems odd for portis to come out and say this, almost like he is grasping cause he knows shanny won't want him around next year, this really changed my perception of cp, i know he was always a diva, but i never thought he would go after a teammate like this

and on the same show CP said he doesn't even want to be a captain anymore

someone who leads their team from the sidelines is called a coach Portis, not a captain

Re: Redskins lacked leadership, accountability - WP

I talked about leadership and accountability way back in September. The leaders of a west coast offensive-minded team like the redskins needed to be the head coach and the quarterback - in performance, character, and discipline. I think both Zorn and Campbell has character, but do not have the other 2.

So I guess Daniels, Wynn, and Rock thought it was another players roll to become a team leader and now they sit back and are complaining about no other player doing so. I agree that maybe the front office and Zorn helped with the issue but how can they complain about no player taking the roll when they could have done so themself. QB should be that player but we know that JC is no leader from what I have seen. Can anyone recall JC going up to a player on the sidelines and getting in their face and making them listen to him while he explains what needed to be done. I can't, and maybe that because he was also making so many mistakes.

Re: Redskins lacked leadership, accountability - WP

thomas boswell pretty much summed up this thread in one paragraph, great article

The Redskins' next coach needs to understand what he's getting into. Redskins fans need to understand how much patience they will need. The owner must grasp that, after 11 years, this mess is his and he needs to get out of the way of the professionals. And the players, who know exactly what's wrong with them, need to take responsibility for their own team. When they start acting like winners, instead of just talking like it, they'll have a chance.

Thomas Boswell - With Zorn fired, Redskins criticize lack of discipline on the team - washingtonpost.com

I admire plenty of things about JC(he is one tough dude), but he has way too much Otis Redding music running through his head.

Hey it's a great life "sittin on the dock of the bay" I just don't think that type of laid back casual personality has a chance in hell of being a great NFL leader.

The guy is probably better suited to be a professional fly fisherman.

I love flyfishing. Wish I could get paid to do it.

Funny but I don't recall Joe Montana being any sort of fired up guy. Hell they called him Joe Cool. Just saying a perceived laid back guy can also be a leader.

Holy crap are you guys reading campbell's response to portis ? Wow where the hell has this JC been all along.

Redskins Insider - Your daily source for news and commentary on the Washington Redskins, by Jason Reid

"How's he [going to] question anything when for those four or five weeks before he was on IR [the season-ending injured-reserve list], he never even came around. He wasn't with us. He was never at practice. Who does he think was holding the offense together? He should go ask the coaches and the players if he wants to know. But he wasn't around to do that. He doesn't know anything about leadership."

Leadership definitely comes in different forms. I think JM's leadership started with what he did on the field.

Holy shit.. Jason really went after him, deservedly of course. I'd like to see JC get a little more fire into himself on the field. You blow a block, blitz pickup, route... get in their face a little bit.
