Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
THe players can learn the 3-4 and adapt to it. THe question is do we have the talent to do it. I don't think it is fair to call for Haslett's head so soon. OVerall, our team is hurting badly with depth on both sides of the ball. Kyle has no depth at O line, no Wr corp to speak of other than Moss, and a beat up feature RB that is obviously on the downside of his career. Jim has no D line, especially no NT, no depth in the D backfield, and is a bit thin at LB to run a 3-4. I will go out on a limb as say we wouldn't be all that much better if we did run a 4-3, as we would still be woefully deficient in terms of depth.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
We simply do not have the depth to contend at this time. I know it has been ages since we had a team that was really fun to watch( 1999 Skins were great), but like I have said, you can't build a solid foundation with changing HC, systems, and players all the time. Folks don't want to hear this, but it is true. We are probably going to have to suffer through 1 or 2 more subpar seasons of football before we see light at the end of the tunnel, unless Shanny and co get the axe and we start all over again.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
LOL, let me get this right.... the offense looks bad, has a hard time scoring TD's and it's "we just don't have all the right pieces to the puzzle and give it a year or two", but the defense has a hard time stopping the run, can't tackle, can't bat the ball away from the WR, looks bad, and it's lets fire Haslett.
Damn, now I have to go find my pitchfork........ Did anyone get the feeling like I did that the Refs were giving the game to the Rams? I could have counted holding all across the Rams OL and not one call made by the Refs. Then in the 4th quarter they call Rogers for interference but fail to call the Holding call on the Rams Center keeping us from getting a sack? How about the Rams catch at the one yard line. It technically would not be a catch for me. It reminded me of the Lions game week one. Player caught the ball and when the ball hit the ground it moved, but no the Refs gave it to the Rams on the one yrd line. Across the board though the Skins played horrid. Trying to force the run the whole while being 14 points down, bad play calls, not rolling McNabb out more often like they did with in the Dallas game, Heyer(nough said), Davis not being used enough, Galloway only being used on long balls, where was Armstrong?, the change up on the OL created this whole mess. Well not the whole mess but part of it. So glad we don't need someone like VJackson on this team since our WR's are catching balls all over the field.... I mean Moss catching balls. |

Armstrong hurt his groin, so he couldn't play.

^ I would think twice about the zone part also.... it seemed the Rams WR's found the open spot on the field all day beating our CB's for 1st downs.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
Talent wise, we don't stack up well on two fronts: overall or scheme wise. The redskins cut 10 "core" players this past offseason and barely any of them were picked up, which is one indication of our talent level. If we cut people who weren't good enough for this team and they were being picked up everywhere else, well I'd day we are in a good spot.
Then we have DE's playing OLB because that is all we have. The 3-4 can be a very aggressive defense that confuses QBs because there is so much going on. Unfortunately, we don't have the people upfront to make it work. Who would be a starter on other teams? Fletcher, Hall, Haynesworth, Orakpo and maybe Andre are the only ones. Think about that. Not only are we adjusting to a scheme, we really only have four solid starters. |

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
The Haslett should be fired angle of this thread is pretty stupid. Shanahan came in here and forced a 3-4 down everyone's throat when a more aggressive 4-3 is all we needed. Not to mention the fact that he chose to focus on a pissing match with the most talented defensive player on the team.
If anyone should be fired, it should be Shanahan. |

This was a 4-3 team from top to bottom when Shanny arrived. |

Even so, it would not be as bad a fail because the NT wouldn't be total miscast.

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
I said it back when we picked up the coaching staff, call it rebuild and everyone would be sitting here with the mind set that the team is going to take 3-4 yrs to be great and make a run at the SB. I don't care that it was not the coaching staff's plan it would have left the fans not expecting much and if the team did well they would have been pleasently supprised.
Instead the team came out and said "Oh we are not going to rebuild .... thats a taboo word, we have talent on this team so we are going to make a run at the play offs/SB. and instead of lowered expectations the fans are already calling for coach's heads just after 3 games. |

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
probably been said on this thread...but Carlos Rogers sucks...period......he is a liability.....If I was the QB on the other team I would be focusing on him the whole game. He always seems to be giving too much cushion, can't tackle that well, and has hands like salad tongs......he has 1 interception a year for the past six years, on average. Gave up a penaltly today to get an interception and still dropped the ball.....pathetic............Hall had a terrible game also, but I have much more confidence with him, at least he can catch the ball.!........as long as Rogers is in the game....a 3rd and 5 is a gimme.......in most cases.....unless the QB has a bad pass......I hate him.....!
