Andrew Brandt NFP it was the contracts of Al & D-Hall that caused NFL 2 punish Skins.Al got $21m, while Hall got $15m in 2010
I don't like either guys, one of them was a FA bust. We get penalized for two players, one who is gone, the other looks like he'll be gone. We look poised for a great offseason of getting more FAs. We then find out that we go from having a huge cap to barely any cap at all. This is sign of not going out signing more FA's because in some way were getting screwed. I'm joking, because we have had a few successes from FA, but still why is it we're getting screwed by FA's all the time?

Yeah but if we are breaking the rules then Goodell and other teams probably feel that we need to be punished too. Still seems pretty excessive.

That second round pick to the Rams stings even more now. No ability to trade down... well, unless.....

If we were breaking the rules, all Goodell had to do is not approve the restructured contracts. Unless restructured contracts don't get approved by the league.

There was no "rule". Or at least based on current reporting all it was was an "agreement". And yes the proper and fair solution was to disallow the restructurings. But no they couldn't do that at the time because the "agreement" is blatant collusion. Sorta would have been bad in the middle of a labor negotiation to deny a contract and say it was based on an "agreement" (euphemism for collusion) amongst the owners.

You know what, this could be a blessing in disguise for us.

This could be the sign that we should just go all for the draft and undrafted FA's this year.

Expect a lot of trade downs in the draft Skin Fans!

Yeah, it's a blessing in disguise for Dan Snyder. He saves 36 million dollars in salary in a period of 2 years.

This is total bullshit. What a subjective application of this. Sure, we used the uncapped year to our total advantage. If this wasn't mentioned in the talks, then the NFL has no right.

Eye On Football - CBSSports.com NFL takes cap space from Cowboys, Redskins for front-loading deals in 2010

If true, I'm pretty shocked. I mean a) the NFL doesn't generally give warnings on this kind of stuff, they just disapprove the contract and b) Allen and Schaffer are among the league bests at this and aren't careless

Maybe we can get the Browns to give us a haul for the number two pick

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

If they can split it any way they want between this year and next, can't they defer 100% to next year and fight it in court or appeal? Maybe they can get the amount lowered.

This. Not only that but the cap will most definitely be higher next year, so basically you do can do what deals need to be done, rollover the extra to next year, and defer most or all to next year. As long as our deals are responsible ones this year, I think BA can manage this without a big bump.
