It's all decisions like these that have held this franchise back.

Thanks a lot, Mr. Snyder. While the Steelers, Giants, and Patriots play in Super Bowls year after year we Redskins fans are buried deep in our own crap because of the decisions of Daniel Snyder.
Always the easy thing to do, just blame Snyder

You played for this team once. A lot of this franchise's mediocrity can be traced to Daniel Snyder. The decisions he's made has had a bad impact on what's happened on the field. The only thing he did right was beg Joe Gibbs to come out of retirement and with that, the Redskins went to the playoffs 2 out of the 4 years Gibbs with coaching the Redskins again.

But even when Gibbs stepped down the head coaching vacancy should have gone to Greg Williams but Snyder even fouled that up too. Of course Vinny Cerrato has played a hand by making stupid trades, being incompetent by selecting bad draft choices, and allowing top notch safeties such as Ryan Clark to hit the open market.

But who's the moron who fired Charley Casserly in favor of Cerrato in the first place? That's whose fault it is then.

Re: This Skins Stat Says A Lot About Us

Last I remembered, Clark wasn't an all world safety when he played here, nor is he one with the Steelers. Good player, yes, but I guess with our current situation, a move made over 7 years ago still shouldn't be a reason for our abysmal situation.

He only had 3 interceptions over his first four years, and some questioned his tackling, which was one of the reasons the Giants let him go. Sucks that he turned out to be solid, but he is in no way a world beater............Plus, we filled his slot quite nicely in the subsequent years with a much better safety, ST21.

So I counted the number of 8 point losses we've had over ten years compared to all the other teams in the NFL. The results I found were pretty interesting/Somewhat shocking/somewhat surprising:

The number 1 team who loses the most 'Close' games in the NFL since 02:

1. Redskins 60 close losses the past 10 years; thats an average of 6 close losses a season.
2. (Tie) Detroit and Cleveland w/ 53 close losses.
3. Cincinnatti with 47

Teams with the fewest close losses:

1. New England with 19
2. Indy with 26
3. NY Giants 28

This tells me that we are a great team that can't seem to finish games. We know how to be competitive, but we just don't have that extra push from either our players or our coaches or both.

If you think about it, if we got half, 3/4, or all of those close loss games to wins, we'd be a playoff team most years.

Discuss!
Most interesting point. Nice dig there. New England and Giants on top of spread and Detroit, Cleveland and Washington on bottom of spread. Yes it does say a lot.

Re: This Skins Stat Says A Lot About Us

**** it. Decide to do the research.

2003- 4th rounder (Trung Candidate trade)

2004- 2nd rounder (in Portis trade)

2005- 3rd rounder (JC trade)

2006- 1st rounder (JC trade)
3rd rounder (duckett trade)
3rd rounder(Lloyd trade)
4th rounder (JC trade)

2007
- 4th rounder (Lloyd trade)

2008- 2nd rounder (jason taylor trade)

2009- 4th rounder (Pete Kendall trade)
7th rounder (Erasmus James trade)

2010- 6th rounder (Jason Taylor trade)

1st round totals: 1
2nd round totals: 2
3rd round totals: 3
4th round totals: 4
5th round totals:
6th round totals: 1
7th round totals: 1

These are the draft picks that were pissed away from 2003-2009. You want to know why this team still doesn't have depth? Well, there you go. Even if you land on just 3 of those picks, that's 3 players still on this team that would be starting or providing depth.

Cliffnotes: FU Joe Gibbs 2.0 and Vinny Bugeyes.

Don't forget our castoff saviour McNabb. Didn't we give up a 3rd rounder for a QB that confused receivers feet with their hands?

I added up all the crap trades up till Shanahan's arrival. I didn't include any trades during his tenure.

I noticed that...but Shanahan giving away picks for used up has been QB's is another reason this team doesn't have depth. He makes plenty of mistakes on his own. His personell decisions on defense in Denver probably cost him his job in Denver as much as anything. Hard to have good depth when you can't even pick quality starters.

I concur. No argument there. I think he overestimated his coaching skills and roster and thought he could win now with little compensation, while still rebuilding. He was incorrect.

If Mike could find somebody to pick defensive talent, he would be set. As it is, his defensive drafting appears sketchy to say the least.

Completely agree. Mike Shanahan shouldn't be selecting the players. Bruce Allen should be doing that. I've been saying this for the past few days. The GM selects the players in the draft, makes the trades, and signs the best free agents he can find. The head coach meanwhile coaches all of these players. Mike Shanahan needs a have a coke and a smile and just coach the damn players. He'll never succeed at being the head coach and selecting the talent.

Re: This Skins Stat Says A Lot About Us

Not sure if there is a stat for this or not, but our biggest problem right now is the fact that every time we cross the 50 on offense, we end up acquiring a penalty that usually stalls our progress.
