I'm not sold on BO yet. He's having his best season is a garbage year and a contract year. I'm afraid he's setting himself up as another player set to bank rob the Skins.

One thing you can't question the guy on is his effort/work ethic. He's always been all in and gives 100%, not just this year.

In the rare moments he's healthy he is all in, unfortunately I'm not convinced he can stay healthy.

Compared to the rest of the D he does look good but that's not saying much. I think if he was a free agent with another team and the Skins wanted him there wouldnt be much support for that move on this site.

Not sure where this myth about him not being able to stay healthy has come from, you're not the only one to say it.

He missed 12 games last year, outside of that he's only missed 1 other game.

He started all 16 in 2009 and 2011. In 2010 he missed 1 game. This year he's started all 14.

I never sensed he wasnt the type to give 100% on the field and towards his teamates. Always seen him a high character dude. It might be tough to keep him because teams are taking notice.

In my opinion, it is a HUGE mistake to let Brian Orakpo walk. Whoever the DC is next year, they need guys to rebuild the defense around. Kerrigan and Orakpo together can be a monster combination.

And in your post about Garcon - he is truly a #1 in my opinion. I certainly hope he wants to stay in Washington as long as possible, because this franchise has not had a receiver like him in a long, long time. Probably not since Gary Clark/Art Monk.

One of the announcers said yesterday that Orakpo said he was excited to test free agency so I'm not sure he will be in a skins uniform come next year. His timing to start playing better seems almost like he is giving more effort then in the start of the season.

Rak has not been the elite player that we hoped to get.

That said, he certainly is "good enough" and guys like him don't grow on trees. So I hope that we lock him up with a reasonable (not huge) contract.

Re: Redskins vs. Falcons Post-Game Thread

I was impressed by the character of our team against the Falcons. Given everything else (and the KC performance), there was every reason to think that they would not show up and/or fold immediately. While it would have been better to get a W, it was nice to see us being competitive.

I agree, he's not the elite player he was expected to be. I'm not against re-signing him but not for elite player $.

No he's not elite (not many guys are) but he's been good and at times very good. LBs that can get you 10+ sacks don't grow on trees as you say.

I think it's time to let Rak go. Kruger got 8-9 million? That probably means Rak can get a little more on the open market. We've seen him now for several years and he's not worth that kind of money. The defense last year played better w/out him. I'd save the money and gamble with Jenkins, Tapp and Jackson.

I wouldn't. We have the bookends to build our defense around with Rak and Kerrigan and if Rak commands 5 yrs 40-45 million then give it to him. Like everyone has said he is NOT elite but you don't find guys like him just sitting on the street waiting to be picked up.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

Your point is well taken. The caveat with Orakpo is, of course, how much is it going to cost in cap space to keep him? I'd like to keep him but I think there needs to be a price at which we drop out in order to be able to improve the overall team.

That's because we have a number of positions to fill. We can improve significantly if we can just man those positions with capable - not necessarily outstanding - players. We really need to get bang for the buck in the free agency market this time around.

I dunno. Im torn. Orakpo was that blessing that fell to us in the draft, I remember how lucky I felt when he dropped to us that day. But he WILL command more than 9 mil a year. Possibly 9.5 or 10 a year. If it stays at 10 or below, he has the work ethic and is really growing as a pass rusher, I say get him. Having legit threats at both ends is a value that cannot be understated. At least not in todays NFL. I just really think this team would function so much better with Orakpos and Kerrigans hand in the dirt on every play. I would love to switch back to 43 next year. That might be wishing on a prayer though, but I believe it could be done, and it might just take some pressure off of our shit secondary.
