I don't either. It's kind of reminding me of the Zorn hire, where the assistants were pretty much picked for the HC. I really hope that Gruden makes the decision, or holds the power of who he wants on his staff.

I think the big difference is that Zorn was completely overmatched in any role above position coach. Also, those were Cerrato/Snyder decisions independent of the HC search. Gruden has relationships with all of these guys already so the 'conversations' may have been to hold these guys around until after the process so he could decide if he wanted them around as well.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Don't forget that Haz was Gruden's boss with the Tuskers. The choice to retain Haz may have more to do with JG than with Snyder.

Let us hope that is the case. It is what I am leaning towards...

I hope we do a hybrid defense that changes between 4-3 and 3-4 but its base scheme is a tampa-2

Hopefully that's the idea behind keeping Haslett - same DC but different scheme.

Yeah secondary especially was always a joke under Shanny. Talent is key.

Lol a month ago 99% of people wanted JH fired, now it was shannys fault. Smh love the blindness folks. Dude has never been a good DC for the redskins. He's been here 4 years now and its sos every yr. O well hope this is a good hire but I get the feeling it was a buddy helping a buddy and it was the plan all along.

I am with you. I can't understand why we kept Haz. But hopefully there is a better explanation than "It was Shanahan's fault."

agree. I personally dont care if we go 4-3 or 3-4, rather see someone else run it even if its Morris. I think the Haz carry over has Danny hands all over it, dont like it.

So true. Going 3-13 was 100% on Shanahan. lol.

Interesting tidbit:
David Elfin ‏@davidelfin 4m
A year ago today, @RGIII was going under the knife. Today he gets a new coach.

I think personnel choices will be crucial to the defense regardless of who's DC. We need a starting caliber ILB and a consistent FS. I would love to see us go back to the 4-3.

Re: Jay Gruden hired as head coach of the Redskins

Jay Gruden is clearly a Bruce Allen hire.

Someone mentioned Haslett as Asst. HC. and Raheem as DC. I'd have no problem with that. To have Haslett serve as a mentor and advisor to the young HC makes a lot of sense to me.

I hope that Gruden has a proper appreciation of the importance of Special Teams. We need immediate improvement in that area.
