Re: Redskins Trade for Alex Smith
Cousins wasn’t going to take $23.5/year so they found someone who will.

The important takeaway for everyone - Alex Smith will count $17M on our 2018 cap. And for the 4 Years after, will average $23.5M on our cap. Cousins took up $24M this year. This frees important resources.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I approve, pending finding out who the player to be named is. Alex Smith will be very successful with Gruden, every bit as successful as Cousins, if not better. He’s mobile and throws on the run very well.
But if we gave up a meaningful player I don’t anticipate being happy. But ultimately, if you thought Cousins wanted to be here, you were kidding yourself all along.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
So do you guys think smith is better than McCoy? All I hear is how bad we would be with colt under center.. we still have top pick and with many holes this team has I can’t say it’s the wrong move ..it was obvious cousins wanted out well he gets his wish but here is a question , can the team still get anything for cousins?

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
Were you really excited about paying Cousins top dollar? Don’t we all remember the Giants in week 17 the last two years?
Cousins was good for us, but not great. He had brain fart games and turned the ball over far more than Smith. Smith had 5 INTs and lost only 4 fumbles. Cousins was far worse with caring for the ball.

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
You put Alex smith on the Skins this year with no running game and little at wr...what is his numbers?
Kelce, Kareem hunt, Hill...decent Oline. Great cast coming off a career year.

And Cousins still wasn’t as good in 2015 or 2016 when he had Reed, DJax, and Pierre.

This is what I believe too. There aren't many in the league who would have eeked out 7 wins.

In all fairness we do have an entire off season and a draft to find some weapons. I guarantee you we have a better RB at the start of next season. Maybe Reed stays healthy? Economically this is a win for the Skins. It also allows us to groom a young quarterback over the next few years. I would have jumped off a bridge if someone told me we are giving up a third rounder, Fuller, and Cousins for Alex Smith two days ago BUT when I step back it actually makes sense for several reasons. 1)frees up instant cap money 2)settles the quarterback situation and allows us to move forward and address the rest of our needs. 3) I love Cousins, but i can see Smith running Grudens offense with precision and CARE (not turning the ball over - huge). I do have a question. Cousins is just gone. Right? Meaning we get nothing for him. Is there a way that the Skins could have somehow traded KC for something AND wound up here taking Smith? |

Makes things a little better. Thanks. I was always one to say man if the Chiefs had a real quarterback they would be great but Smith definitely has mobility and smarts. Doesn’t turn the ball over alot at all. I know you guys are excited about Mahomes but I wouldn’t pencil that in as an upgrade just yet. Smith may just be more of a winner than you give him credit for. Not one who does it in spectacular fashion dropping 50 yard dimes BUT one who manages (there is that bad word ...lol) to win. |

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
I'm not sure I like this trade. I bet Colt could probably put up similar numbers as Smith. Why would you give up a draft pick and a player when you might have the same guy already on your roster? This smells like Bruce Allen.
I do give the Redskins some credit for putting an end to this Cousins saga. He's not worth north of 25 million. Smith might even be the better player cause he can make plays with his legs. I'm going to try and give the Redskins the benefit of the doubt here. But I want to know which player we're giving up in this deal. |

Re: Redskins trade for Alex Smith
27-30 million >>>>>> 23.5
You can get a stud like Swearinger for 4 million, you can get a beast with 7 million. I expect to see a Zach Brown extension real soon. That'll be nice. Learn that zone defense baby.
