Brown was a four-year starter in Houston — or at least he would’ve been if he hadn’t fractured his right forearm in the Texans’ Week 3 game last season and missed the final 13 games. He had surgery to repair the break the next day, and according to Wiestling he’s now “100 percent healthy (and) was cleared to play at the end of December.” So he’ll be ready for the May mini-camp of whichever team signs him.

At 6-foot, 208 pounds, Brown is known more for his run defense than his pass defense. He could compete for a starting job, though, next to either Michael Johnson or Kenny Phillips. At the very least he’d be part of a safety rotation that is currently only two-men deep.

Jones has struggled w/ injuries the last 2 years and otherwise appears to have declined a bit in ability... he's not a franchise LT at this point and Cinci would be wise to use the 6th overall to replace him... in which case he'd be cut after the draft cuz why pay the guy franchise LT money to be a backup. I just doubt he'd command big money cuz there's really a lot of OT talent coming in the draft... i tend to think 6 or maybe 7 guys from the position will get drafted in the 1st round alone. I'm def not saying this is a good plan for us but just something we might be able to fall back on...

Re: 2009 Free Agents

Best under 30 and both real needs at this point..Signing them would change our whole draft board.

6. Khalif Barnes, OT: If the evaluation was based on size and talent alone, he wouldn’t even be on the market. But Barnes has had trouble off the field, and gave up 7½ sacks and committed nine penalties last season. He’s still young (26) and if he could get some discipline in his life, he could be a good starting tackle well into his 30s.

7. Angelo Crowell, LB: Some personnel men think his decision-making is inconsistent, but he was undeniably productive before suffering a season-ending knee injury last year. He’s got the size and speed to play inside or out in either a 3-4 or 4-3. If it weren’t for the lag of that knee injury, he’d be long gone by now.

Did you get your list from this?

Personally I vote for signing Leigh Bodden and cutting Smoot.

It would cost us $4.2M to cut Smoot, which is almost identical to his salary this year anyway. Plus we'd have to pay Bodden. Not sure if this is possible given our other needs.

Wow, the Bengals are giving Coles almost 10 mil of guaranteed money.

Coles owed $9.75M in '09 | Cincinnati Enquirer | Cincinnati.Com

Pats picked up Leigh Bodden (queue in generic praise for their FO/rant for our FO)

Cowboys picked up Gerald Sensabaugh. Not a bad move there

Re: 2009 Free Agents

Bodden is a steal for the Pats, but what else is new. We probably didn't have the cap space to throw at a non issue like that, honestly (it's less that we don't have enough, but that we don't have means to create any more should we run out), but I'm guessing his contract is not quite what Hall's looks like.

COWBOYS CUFF SENSABAUGH
Posted by Mike Florio on March 10, 2009, 1:09 p.m.

Free-agent safety Gerald Sensabaugh, a former Jaguar who has been arrested three times in roughly two years in his hometown of Kingsport, Tennessee, has agreed to terms with the Cowboys, according to Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News.

It’s a one-year deal.

Sensabaugh will provide depth to a depth chart that has lost Roy Williams, and could still lose free-agent Keith Davis.

Last month, Sensabaugh was busted for driving his Bentley on a suspended license. He had three guns in the car at the time (including an AK-47) but apparently was in legal possession of the weapons.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

Driving on a suspended license isn't quite 15+ arrests in four years.

Yeah but he's not a model citizen either.

Re: 2009 Free Agents

I would throw a deal at Tennessee's CB Reynaldo Hill, or Oakland's CB Justin Miller right now.

Hill is not to be confused with former Miami and current Denver Safety Renaldo Hill.

Orlando Pace was just released.

ProFootballTalk.com - RAMS RELEASE PACE

What about a stop-gap solution with Pace and using our 13th overall on DE or LB?

I guess the question would be how cheap can we get him and how much durable is he going to be. I don't remember if he was hurt last year or not.

He apparently played most of last year but was out 2006 and 2007 season due to injury.

He's on his last pair of legs but may be serviceable if we are looking at defense with the 13th overall.

I'd still rather have a youth movement on the OL but if there is a stellar defensive player on the board I wouldn't want to be precluded from picking him.
