WR Garcon and Morgan fit Shanahan's playmaker critieria - Washington Times

Quote:
The Redskins aggressively pursued Garcon (five years, $42.5 million contract, and Morgan (two years, $12 million) "knowing we might have to overpay," Shanahan said.

Why?

"His ability to run after the catch," Shanahan said. "His ability to come out of a break at full speed. He’s one of the few guys I’ve been around that can explode on the field, come out of a break with speed. Once he catches the ball, his ability to go to the distance."

Quote:
"Josh Morgan is a complete football player," Shanahan continued. "He can block. He can run. He can catch. He’s one of the most underrated guys that I thought was out there when I talk about a complete football player."

what shanny says about him and coming otu of a break is someting weve sorely lacked for yours. santana is his prime could have done it, but we never had a qb who could hit a simple slant in stride.

finally we at least have some WRs whoa re young and can do it and HOPEFULLY a QB who can hit them.

He also forgot to say that Josh Morgan is also coming off a serious ankle injury; very grotesque break from what I heard. I would have taken Eddie Royal over Josh, but whatever.

I think the idea was take whichever one agrees to a contract first, and that was morgan.

I mean, it's nearly impossible to predict what the offense will be capable of this season. It could be downright explosive if the chemistry between Griffin and Garcon, Hank, Morgan, Davis/Cooley and Moss/Gafney is already established. And if the oline gels together to improve the ground attack it could be just lethal.

...but questions abound. Will Morgan and Hank be healthy? Will Griffin be ready for the big stage? Who's our starting RT?

^ Joe Adams, LaMichael James, Andrew Datko, Markelle Martin. That's my 3rd round wish list in no particular order.

Morgan's a very underrated player. He'll be fine. He could go right now if needed. I'm looking at Hank/Garcon/Morgan as the triad that will grow with Griffin.

Re: Redskins Add WRs Pierre Garcon and Joshua Morgan

There is an ongoing theme I'm seeing that is pretty sad, and that is apparently the Browns do not have a phone anywhere in their building and non of the staff have cell phones. The team must have banned them from the facility in case of a situation of an active shooter.

What on earth am I talking about? The Skins trade with the Rams for the #2 pick and the Browns whined about how they wanted the trade. How their offer was just as good as the Redskins.

Now the Browns are saying they wanted Pierre Garçon. Um, what they can't make a phone call? Can't contact an agent? Oh I know what it is.... it's he whole competitive advantage BS.

Moss and Gaffney are solid vets but neither is a deep threat, and let's face it both are on the tail end of their careers. We needed some productive young talent at WR.

Yes sir. We need some whippersnappers that Griffin can grow with.

Absolutely. On paper at least it's a nice mix of vets who know the system and younger playmakers who will grow w/ Griffin.

I think in one-on-one coverage, Moss or Gaffney can stil get behind the corner back and catch a deep ball. Gaffney and Moss are more of possession receivers now, but they can still go deep.

Sure, if the corner falls down maybe.

Neither guy is the kind of reliable deep threat you need.

And Gaffney isn't a big yards after the catch guy either. We need more explosive plays and these guys just don't cut it in that department.

You wouldn't be relying on them as deep threats or 'explosive' players.
Moss is a move around guy at this point and his greatest production is from the slot.
Armstrong and Hankerson would be the 'vertical' WRs.
But, its all moot anyway.

The additions of Garcon and Morgan without a doubt improve the WRs corps.
