Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
Saunders has clearly refused to adapt his offense to the strengths of the players he has. A typical NFL team goes in with about 60 offensive plays in the game plan for any given week. Saunders is going in with 300. Complexity invites disaster.
Someone needs to pull their heads out of their asses and figure out what they do well and just do that. Also, it is very important to note that the Skins had the lead at the half in three games they ultimately lost. There is a clear drop off by Brunell in the second half. I'd suggest it has to do with the complexity. Simplicity is a principal of war.

Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
Game plan. 300 plays? Who is Al trying to confuse, the Defense or the Offense???? I think Saunders is why Brunell and the line and CP and everyone else is struggling. Offense not designed around the players that are there, which are Gibbs system players running someone else's offense. They are not adapting well at all, frankly seem a little pissed off about it. But what are we gonne do about it? Dump all of our starters and sign new FA's that fit Al?
I sure hope (as we all do) that the reason MB is still starting is not because Campbell sucks worse. Put him in and simplify the gameplan. Go Skins! |

Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
Oh, I do. I think Campbell would actually USE some of our offseason acquisitions like Lloyd and Randle El. Sure, he might throw a few more INTs than Brunell, but I would think he'd make more plays without question.

Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
Because honestly, I don't think it's just Brunell's health that's failing him, I think it's his mental awareness too. He just isn't making reads fast enough.

Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
the mere presence of JC's arm on the field would probably open up the run.

Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
i think Gibbs got Campbell expressly because he *wasn't* Ramsey. was that what you were getting at?

Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
Actually I meant that Brunell is facing the same issues right now with teams stacking the line and bringing pressure.

Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
Again, I'll say that we'll see a truly different team against the Cowboys with Griffin returning and both starting corners finally back.
If the defense can hold them to 13 or so points, we'll have our answer about whether Brunell is really the problem.

Re: Why Brunell is Struggling
Neither Gibb's nor Saunder's offenses cater to these players. We have speedy receivers, and a smaller faster running back, with a slow QB. Sounds like the ingredients of a mike martz offense. These players would benefit from spreading out the defense as much as possible with 4WR sets and running draws up the middle and off tackle. however, we don't seem to have the QB for an offense like that, and saunders likes pulling O'linemen on screens and such. Just seems like a complete disaster right now honestly such a mismatch between personel and gameplan, again goes back to the need for a Gm. If we wanted to help brunell we would have gotten a big receiver that can go up and grab those ducks that brunell throws. Instead we got the opposite. Hopefully it will work itself out, it works for the jets, they have similar personel, probably cause we trade players with them every year.
