Randall Godfrey? Come on.
Godfrey is another guy coming off a good year against the pass. He is two years older than Marshall, but they could certainly do worse.

Not sure if this is an upgrade, but since Lemar wasn't going to be around next year, it makes some sense.

I don't see any similarities at all.

Godfrey is not being brought in as a starter, he's depth and nothing more. Plus he's played for GW before.

I think we are overanalyzing this. The simplest answer to why he got cut is that he was outplayed in camp.

This offseason, we've made a significant effort to find LBs who are good vs. the pass. Fletcher, we made a run at Briggs, drafting Sartz and Blades, two very underrated cover LBs, who dropped due to size. For two straight years now, Marshall has been awful against the pass. While his prowess against the run could have justified the 4th LB spot, its possible he didn't "fit" our new defense.

I agree that it probably came down to his play. Let's be honest, Marshall was a weakness at MLB last year.

He was probaboly our biggest defensive playmaker in 2005, however. I mean the entire defense did a great job and he was in good position alot of times...but if you go back to 2005, he made some HUGE plays for us....

I agree that he played well in 2005. My favorite "Marshall Moment" was in the penultimate game of 2005 against the G-men when Lemar intercepted a pass intended for Shockey, who in typical Shockey fashion, turned and bitched at the refs while Marshall was taking the ball back 20 yards the other way. I had a bunch of Giants fans wearing #80 jerseys sitting near me that day, and I got right in their faces pointing out how their boy quit on what was one of the biggest plays of the game. Priceless.

I thought the play against the Eagles when he tipped the interception to himself was one of the great defensive plays in Redskins history. That game was not going our way at the time. (This was the game where ST returned the fumble and Mrs. Portis threw down and repesented.)

Yes he did . He has been our best cover LB the past few years . Why anyone questions his play at MLB is puzzling ,,, that would be the same as moving Taylor to CB , then blaming him for not being the next D Green . Marshall will end up in Chicago , NYG or Phily and have a nice career . I guess M Washington will get the ax next year and we will bring in J Seau . We should have atleast gottten a 6th rounder for him .

I think Marcus Washington was are best coverer he did drop like 3 -4 Ints this year and with that could have given him his first Pro-bowl (Which he should of-
had 2 years ago.

I always thought that Marshall was pretty good in coverage and sub-par in run-blocking (which isn't surprising considering he is a 230 lb. MLB).

I didn't see him as a run stopper either, he was always better in coverage.

Wasn't Lemar a safety in college?

I thought I heard that once on a broadcast. At 225ish pounds, he was undersized as a LB.

Key play last year when he tackled dallas' barber for a safety.

Same here. I thought he was better in pass coverage. Even more so than Pierce, but he lacked in run defense.

Marshall has been downright terrible against the pass the last two seasons. Ranked 95th among LBs in pass yards against last season (9.2), 104th in 2005 (8.1).

Against the run last season, Marshall was pretty bad. He was better in 2005, but still pretty overrated. Lavar was a beast (when he played) here in 2005, and I'm guessing that some of that perception rubbed off on Lemar (Including me, I thought he was much better than he was).

His best season as a pro was that pro bowl caliber 2004 he had on the weakside.

I know he was a converted safety, but he can't cover anyone. Perhaps why he was converted?
