It's clearer now than ever that Manning's camp fed ESPN's Chris Mortensen the news of his supposed medical clearance. "Peyton has not passed our physical," says Irsay, "nor has he been cleared to play for the Colts. Team statement coming on Friday." Colts doctors are reportedly worried about the nerves in Manning's neck and triceps. While Peyton is notifying interested teams he's healthy, the Colts still need the medical excuse to decline his $28M bonus.

Colts counter-punch to team Manning
Irsay is going about this situation all wrong. He is looking like a real piece of work.

Agreed...Irsay is coming off like a fool in this. He's trying to win the public sentiment when he should really just keep his mouth shut.

This tweet follows his statement last week to keep this situation in house. Well there is a big difference in the annoucement that PM is cleared to resume his football career. IE meaning his neck is good and the fusion has worked, but there are still some lingering issues of healing in his arm. Then when PM came out and said he didn't recognize the Colts org any more.

This tweet that came from Irsay was a direct shot at PM's camp. Seems much more childish and "politicing" then the comments from PM not so long ago.

We sure have a lot of doctors in the house eh?

lol

The Dr. who performed his surgery cleared him, of course he still has to keep rehabbing to get the strength back in his arm, but regardless it sounds like he's on the right track.

I'm not a Dr. but I think it is fairly safe to say that a high profile player who has a strong desire to come back and play the game that he loves could find a Dr. that was willing to grant him the medical clearance he desired. Even if that player knew playing again could end his career or worse. You can't tell me that has never happened before in professional sports.

None of those doctors are going to stake their reputation like that. It would also be grounds for a huge lawsuit if they cleared him on false grounds. These guys are some of the best in the business AND one of the doctors is the team neurosurgeon for the Colts.

Just like a Dr. wouldn't stake their reputation writing prescriptions for illegal performance enhancing HGH steroids for professional baseball players? Deception and illegal actions in medicine are just as prevalent as in all other industries. I believe it would be naive to think otherwise.

lol foreign doctors? That particular doctor was in Canada, and most went to him because he would prescribe HGH. This wasn't some big time doc like Dr. Andrews with the Redskins. Notice he wasn't giving out HGH to players.

Also, your point is invalid the moment the Colts neurosurgeon cleared him as well. Even if he got some random doctor to clear him, the team doctor wouldn't have. In fact, it would have been in the Colts best interest if he hadn't cleared.

I'm not a Dr. but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Does that count?

Seriously though, the nerves that fire to his tricep are what's holding things up. Problem is you get muscular atrophy because muscles need nerve stimulation to exist. There's treatments like steriods (LOL), electrical stimulation, rigorous exercises trying to jump start those nerves, etc.

His neck is what all the Doc's are okaying.

SkinzWin, you painted the exact scenario that has to be running through Bruce Allen's mind right now. Think about it, do the Redskins really want another high profile free agent that "might not" work out or the flags were there and they took the plunge anyway?

I doubt it.

This PR battle between Irsay and Manning has to be turning off potential suitors.

We are talking about a HOF QB Peyton Manning here not, signing Jeff George. Manning has proven he is 1 of the best QB's ever to play. No GM could fault the Redskins for signing Peyton if he is healthy. He could give us 3-4 years while we find a future franchise QB. We keep all of our draft picks or trade down from #6 for more picks and get our young QB in the later rounds. This is a win situation for us. Peyton will is a top 5 QB when healthy and RGIII or Luck have not done squat in the NFL.

I agree completely. But the question/concern about Peyton Manning playing in for the Redskins is this: Can he play quarterback effectively in a west coast offense after being in one offense for so many years? Can Manning do what Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan want him to do? Will the Shanahans attempt to alter the things that Peyton does best on the field and try and change him like how they did with McNabb? Will Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan allow Peyton Manning to call his own plays like he had been doing for Indianapolis? What if the situation blows up like it did with McNabb?
