Would Benson have been a good fit here? He's not really tearing things up in GB in their system. He's more of a power guy who likes to run behind a FB.

It's concerning that Helu was borderline IR leading up to the season b/c of his achilles and now he's placed on IR for turf toe. I'd be less concerned, I think, if the same injury that nearly put him on IR in the first place was the one that eventually did.

And I'm not sure they're done with moves

Not all that surprising, bigger surprise is that he wasn't placed on IR before the season started.

Some of you know I was saying back in July he was a strong candidate for IR. Never could quite get healthy enough.

I still hear Royster may miss some time though. Week or two perhaps
that's disappointing. helu and royster just can't seem to stay healthy at all.

Not too excited about Ryan as he and Morris have similar running styles. I was hoping for a change of pace back.
I am excited about Ryan's pass protection blocking. I think it's desperately needed considering all the protection issues we've had.

Could have been the difference maker between Grant and another FA RB. Probably was in fact, gotta give the FO credit for it.

any clues?

@Matty, I dunno, think id still prefer Benson to Grant. Grant was really bad last year. Still surprised we didnt go Slaton over Grant.

I agree with some folks on here saying that this signing has more to do with helping out with pass protection. Grant's addition also says that the Redskins needed to address what they think is an issue - protecting RGIII.

Hopefully, Grant runs well enough to not tip what the Redskins are doing on offense and continue to keep the opposing defenses off-balance.

Additional moves - let me guess: offensive lineman and/or defensive backs?

No OL really available, far as I know

And we added David Jones yesterday

Yeah, it's slim pickings all the way around at this point. It was just wishful thinking at this point, but I was thinking there might be some surprise move or trade that was up Bruce Allen's sleeve. They must have been very down on Kevin Barnes if he's still available, considering his familiarity with the defense and it's safe to say that the defense hasn't been as good as last year (a defense with Barnes on it) .

Well, it really depends on how serious Royster's injury really is. If he can go Sunday, no problem. If he only misses Sunday probably no problem either, they can get by. If he's going to miss two weeks or more then there's a problem.

So, I'm just speculating here. But I honestly don't know the extent of their interest in Grant. I mean clearly it was enough to sign him but I wasn't really aware of the level of interest they had in him over the past months.

I do know that Slaton was a guy they were seriously looking at, and nearly traded for multiple times this summer because they saw him as a potential replacement for Helu should he have to go on IR.

And I know that what they like about Royster is his ability to be the backup/1A lead back and his ability to pass block, which is what you get in Grant. But it was Helu that went on IR, not Royster.

So, long story short, I don't think the interest in Slaton is done because if Royster is down for a while then Grant in for Royster, and Slaton in for Helu. But again, a lot depends on Royster's status which we won't likely know until at least Thursday

Jones is a better special teams player, and really Jones is in for Butler who's primarily role was special teams

I read Grant was offered a contract without a workout? Thats kinda strange. The drafting of Alfmo turned out to be very critical, cant have enough young productive RBs.
