this is somewhat of a wash talent wise, except Rolle has been less prone to fakes but is a bit more brittle, the deciding factor in this situation, like others have said, is which one Greg Williams wants more. After what he did with our defense last year, he knows about this way way the hell more than any of us do. |

Re: Samari or Freddy?
As I understand it Smoot and co. are official free agents tonight (on the 1st) and can sign with other teams tomorrow on the 2nd I think .
The coaches and everyone might want Smoot back but there has to be a plan B if we sit on our hands and wait for Smoot to decide or not to come back here any top FA will be gone and Smoot could turn aroundand simply say he has a better offer elsewhere, then we are up a certian creak without a padle. By at least geting your name in the hat for top CB prospects then it gives you a fall back position . I truely think and it is not a Redskins thing here agents representing all kinds of players are waiting till free agency ... |

Re: Samari or Freddy?
Most definitely. AND Williams has been speaking highly of Wilds as a backup.

Re: Samari or Freddy?
I don't know how credible this report is and i didn't trust the coles one when i heard it and now it is accepted that it is not gonna happen. Remember we won't hurt our team expecially here. We may feel smoot is amazing and if we are gonna pay rolle more it must be because he is better or that if smoot has now fallen back on the deal. GW is not stupid we jumped 22 spots in d and that is his credit and he will not hinder the team. ROLLE is not "old" he may be older but not old. I think shawn springs is better than smoot and he is also older. Springs averaged 11.6666 games the three seasons before he got here and got the same amount of INTs this year as he did those three years. People said he couldn't replace Bailey but i would not take bailey back in replacement of springs. Rolle is also said to be faster than smoot and the speed on our defense is elite and will get better. Rolle also got the sacks with williams in the begginning, think of two CBs like that and we would have 2 shut down CBs along with the best free saftey and bowen or clark who are just amazing additions.
EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT, I TRUST THE TEAM ENOUGH NOT TO HURT ITSELF. THERE IS A REASON |

Re: Samari or Freddy?
the aricle said what Rolle might want in a 15mil bonus who knows if that what we are offering, and Lets not forget how Williams makes player better. Rolle's asking price may go down if he know's that Williams will make him better

Re: Samari or Freddy?
Rolle is a top 10 corner, sorry guys but Smoot isn't quite there yet. More like top 15.
If Smoot and Rolle are both looking for the same money, Rolle is the better player therefore the better value. Don't forget Williams coached Rolle and probably feels he's a better fit in his defense. That's the only thing that's making me feel ok about this deal. If Williams wants Rolle and we have to let Smoot walk, I'm ok with that if that's what Coach Williams wants. Nobody can question his ability to put together a top notch defense. |

I concur Matty, I believe William's likes Smoot, but for the same money likes Rolle a lot more, Daesel makes a good point about getting rid of a leader on defense, but a true leader lead's with his action's, besides that's what Gibb's is for, I have alway's felt verbal leader's are way overated, but I do understand his sentiment for Smoot as I have as well, but $10mil for Smoot is a very, very nice offer, we can't pay him like an elite CB because he is not. Rolle on the other hand is and elite CB. Perhap's this is being done to persuade Smoot to sign who know's, but if Smoot want's to make this about money after turning down a $10mil signing bonus, then we are showing no disloyalty by looking for the best bang for the buck. |

Re: Samari or Freddy?
Rolle is 28 and Smoot is 26, so let's stop with the silly older player comments, it's not like Rolle is 38, that would be a concern. 2 years is not a concern in the grand scheme of things.

Matty - I feel sending the leader of your defense packing rarely results in a good outcome.

Players understand the business side of things, and I think it was Pierce who said that the guys on defense are used to the constant changes. I love Smoot and the way he plays with such heart, but should we pay him top 5 corner type of money just for the sake of holding on to a 'leader'? |
