They were expecting to see her instigating the fight (as she claimed and apologized for) and the video shows otherwise. That's what the uproar is about. (to me)

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Hearing about something and actually seeing it are two different things. Imagine if there was tape of Vick killing dogs? He likely would have had a tougher time getting his 2nd chance.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
I concur with this sentiment as well. It truly is one thing to hear it and another to view it.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Well said Coff and I agree to some extent but we aren't talking about Mike Vick and killing dogs. We are talking about domestic violence and punching someone in the face.
most people know what it is and don't need an imagination to figure it out. |

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Statement from Mrs. Rice:
Janay Rice defended her husband and criticized the media. "I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend," she wrote in an Instagram post. "But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare itself. No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted [opinions] from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing. "To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass off for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!" Janay Rice defends Ray Rice, criticizes media in Instagram post - ESPN Not trying to crawl in to this woman's head but I think it demonstrates the whole "conflict of interest" issue mentioned earlier.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
The good old blame the media argument. I get it to a small degree, but your husband is a public figure who knocked you out on camera. In this day and age if it's on camera, it's going to get out eventually.

I worked at a hotel a long time ago as a desk clerk. If woman was beaten they (woman shelter) bring her there as like a safe house for a few days. The hotel company offered the room as complimentary. No one knew they were there. I didn't even know who was in the room it was just booked under a fake name. One time one of the husbands showed up and proceeded to beat his wife again, how did he know where she was? She called him. Domestic violence is a awful circle of abuse.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
I agree. I was thinking about it last night because I originally guessed it was the act of a whistle blower. However if you were a genuine whistle blower with no ulterior motive wouldn't you send the tape to a more reputable news source like CNN or even Vice News if you didn't trust a major news outlet to handle it properly instead of TMZ? Obviously you can still be a whistle blower while sending the tape to TMZ but given the fact that the choices of news organizations were essentially limitless, why settle on TMZ?

EDIT: Also TMZ had several quotes that were not attribute to anyone by name, but was from the point of view of the casino employees. The founder of TMZ was on Espn radio yesterday and while he wouldn't admit it in this case, he said they will pay for tape and hold stories. He said, "everyone does it" and got quite defensive. Re: Ravens release Ray Rice
Not only that,
(1) Domestic violence and violence against women has been a topic of discussion all summer. (2) With all due respect, it's not all about you and Rice individually. It's larger than that; its a demonstration of what is and isn't acceptable in society. This incident was, unfortunately, just a microcosm of something that happens across the country in many homes everyday. It needs to be held up as a clear symbol "This is wrong. Women - don't tolerate this; Men - don't act like this." (3) I have a daughter. I am outraged at the thought that someone may actually believe this is an appropriate way to treat my daughter under any circumstances. Sorry if you disagree Ms. Rice, but I will let the world know - do this to my daughter and I will hunt you down and inflict grievous injury upon you. (4) I have a son. I am outraged at the thought that someone may actually believe him less a man if he refuses the path of violence to resolve conflicts between himself and someone - particular a wife or gf - who is inherently weaker than him. At this point, unfortunately for Mrs. Rice, the events in question are part of a much larger conversation we need to have as a society.
