I think if we sign Willie Parker then Portis is gone. It's just a hunch on my part, but from the beginning I believed Shanny will draft a RB and have probably one other main carrier on the roster. Portis looked awful most of last season and then of course there's the concussion. With LT, Westbrook showing how quickly even great RBs hit their wall I think the FO looks to dump Portis soon.

It's hard to say. Can you call either one of them the definitive starter? Probably not. I'd take Portis over Parker at this point, assuming clean bill of health from each. Don't know that we'll take an RB high enough to guarantee a start. We'll address the position but I don't think that we'll end up with THAT guy.

We're definitely going to need someone to share the load with Portis whether it be Parker or a player to be named later. As we all know, gone are the days when it could be expected for one back to carry a sixteen game load alone. We're going to give Parker a look see, but in the final analysis our options at RB could be limitless. Would like to see us get younger at the position because durability is always an issue with RB's, youth should serve us better.

The only way Portis is gone this year is if he refuses to work. I know that a lot of people are begging that they let him go but there are 7 million guaranteed reasons why BA and MS WANT Portis to be the guy this year.

Portis isn't going to be dropped without a clear replacement being in the building. Dropping Portis and putting in Parker would be a significant downgrade.

Wasn't sure where to put this so I figured I'd slide it in here. The Redskins have lost another former player, Perry Brooks. Father of 49er and former UVA player Ahmad Brooks.

Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread

Beat writer Mark Gaughan speculates that veteran FS Donte Whitner could be on the trading block.

Whitner played behind George Wilson at the strong safety spot late last season and he isn't going to unseat impressive second-year man Jairus Byrd at free safety. Still, Whitner would be high-quality depth and it's unlikely the Bills could get equal value for that in a trade....

Look like there still could be meat on the bones of a trade with the Bills for Whitner....
Anyone think hes a good option at FS?

I wanted to go back to this question of whether to bring Rolle here or not. He's a good football player, but I think our current rotation of safeties and a healthy Chris Horton will be sufficient.

I think the key to our secondary is whether or not Laron Landry can successfully slide to his more natural position and play like the beast we know he can be.

Perhaps the question with Rolle was not whether he's a good player or not as opposed to his asking price. How much more does the team want to invest in that particular position since it's their intention to not invest too heavily in positions where there's not a dire need?

BTW out of the safeties that are available I would still prefer Ryan Clark or Darren Sharper over Rolle.

Eh, I don't know - how many good years does Sharper really have left? The guy is what, 34 years old. Don't get me wrong, he's a beast. But I think Gregg Williams system also gave him a lot room to be a true safety, if you will. There's no guarantee that if you bring him here, Sharper still nabs nine picks.

I say we roll with what we got. I wouldn't mind seeing Ryan Clark back, but at the right price.

Sharper (and the Saints as a whole) had a magical year. I agree, at 34 you can't expect much more from him. It's rare for a player to put it all together like that in one great year at his age & make so many big plays. I'm not saying he won't be good next year, but even if he stays in NO, he's highly unlikely to be making sportscenter's highlights much, unless he's getting burnt.

I'd take Atogwe over all of them. I think we should pick him up.

Re: Mega-Merge: 2010 Free Agency Rumors and Reports Thread

Again, I see a lot of talk about the safety position. What's wrong w/what we have? It's actually one of the deepest, if not deepest, positions on the team & all of them are young. In a year when we haven't chased the big name players, we certainly weren't going to spend a lot on a safety given the roster we have.
