While I agree it would be nice to see, those two parties do not have enough support to be invited to the debate. It they were allowed to attened then you have a long list of others wanting to attened the debates. There has to be a cut off at some point. I lean Libertarian but they are unorganized and have done a poor job getting their base motivated to grow the party. The green party will never make it with the wackos they have leading the party.

The two party system, and the amount of money in politics is what really hurts this nation.

To be honest, I don't see that changing any time soon. Unless there is a huge popular movement/uprising.

You make a good argument for reducing the federal gov. thus reducing their power over the states. What you have is a country fighting over the massive 3.7 trillion federl budget and how it is spent. Take most of that away and leave it up to the states and most of these federal issue disappear. The sze of the federal gov is what has made this all about the money.

Bush and Michael Dukakis campaigns secretly agreed to a "memorandum of understanding" that would decide which candidates could participate in the debates, which individuals would be panelists (and therefore able to ask questions), and the height of the podiums. The League rejected the demands and released a statement saying that they were withdrawing support for the debates because "the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter."[8]

That's sums up what I felt about the debates even before they started.

I specifically said Green and Libertarian because they are on the Md ballot. if you are on the ballot in more than half the states you get a seat at the big kids table. Who cares how many people are at a debate, if I remember right the republican primaries started with more than just the top two. It is not a hard line to draw since getting on multiple state ballots show some level of organized support.

Parties have been around a long time, but it's how they have entrenched the money, and media, to prevent other groups from really being heard. I would have hoped the internet would have helped, but the internet side just can't organize more than a flash mob here or a flash mob there. Not really good enough to get foundations for change.

2 parties aren't bad in and of themselves, but 2 monolithic, unchanging heavyweights that control the keys to the kingdom are.
