Personally I have great respect for the way Nintendo handles a lot of their IPs in that they wait until they think they have a good game rather then making come hell or high water annual releases. With that said Nintendo is one of the most evil companies out there in the first world in terms of throwing around lawsuits for any and everything rivaling even the likes of Apple. Nintendo launch mass lawsuit against R4 | bit-gamer.net Nintendo Sues Modding Business Over Sale of Game-Copying Devices Court dismisses lawsuit against Nintendo after patents invalidated | Polygon Report: Nintendo settles lawsuit alleging ROM chip patent infringement | Polygon Ironically Nintendo has been scared of piracy even dating before the internet went commercial. In fact its dictated the design of every home console since. For starters both the NES and SNES featured controlled chips that could only be supplied by Nintendo. In fact Nintendos micromanagement of 3rd party developers allowed Sega and eventually Sony to emerge as competitors. The biggest blow up was a chip shortage during the NES era which led to the control chips being rationed. Most of you probably remember seeing this somewhere When disc based games were about to become the thing during the 32 bit era Nintendo ultimately decided that CD's were to easy to copy and choose to stick with $70 MSRP cartridge based games. Then during the PS2 era when Nintendo finally decided to make disc based games they choose to design the Gamecube with miniture disc which they believed in theory would help protect them against piracy. (Ironically today the Gamecube/Wii emulator Dolphin is considered among the best in post PS1 console emulation.) Just like Dreamcast, Nintendo fell victim to PS2 being the most affordable DVD player in the market for a decent part of the early 2000's. Part of the reason Nintendo then choose to go with the Wii was they knew while certainly possible, the motion based gaming controls would be a pain to duplicate. Then of course the WiiU with the tablet based controller was also deemed as a speed bump against piracy. So in conclusion kids Nintendo is the Apple of the Video Game industry. Now what did I come in this thread to say. Oh yeah, if you like story based games try out Walking Dead Season 2 (and 1 for that matter) as well as Season 1 of the Wolf Among Us. Personally I still have trouble wrapping my head around it but Telltale seems to have quietly emerged as one of the better developers in the industry today. Quote:
Investors want Microsoft’s new CEO to kill Xbox, Bing and Surface For starters a group of 'activist investors' which honestly sound more like "why aren't you squeezing every last dime out of your customer base investors" HATE the gaming division of Microsoft as it has been viewed as a money pit. They are now part of the board of directors. Granted PS3 got off to a terrible start last gen and recovered well enough to pull even with the 360 at the end (anyone remember the CEO encouraging people to work harder to afford a PS3) so its certainly not the end of days but unlike Sony, the gaming division has never really been a critical part of Microsoft in terms of business.

It's a smart move by Microsoft. I'm still torn over which system to get, and since I couldn't care less about the Kinect, it's got my attention.

Is anybody besides me really into the Dragon Age series? New one coming in the fall, looks impressive. This will be the impetus for me to spring for the PS4:
Commentary from these nerds is excruciating, but if you can stand how annoying they are it's worth getting a close look at characters and gameplay:

For me personally its rare to get into a game thats middle aged/fantasy themed so it usually has to be pretty special to get my attention. Had to stop it for a while as it was kind of difficult for me without cheating but after learning how to use the terminal/console for cheats and installing dozens of mods I've come to appreciate this game even more. Heres a pic from modded Dragon Age Orgins game. The character pictured here went from this to this: With that said I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the Mass Effect 3 ending fiasco and I've heard very few positive things about Dragon Age 2 so I've had little motivation to try it. I am rooting for Bioware because they're just to talented to write off, and to this day Mass Effect 2 is my undisputed favorite game of all time. Not to mention great single player games are kind of like pitchers in baseball, you can never have too many. In short I am very interested in Dragon Age Inquisition but I can't justify buying a Bioware game going forward until I see enough user reviews that confirm the game being up to par. The Witcher 3 on the other hand I'll likely buy on Day 1 if for no other reason then CD Protjek Red are basically the video game industries version of Good Guy Greg. Re: New Games on the Horizon (the video game thread)
Have had Remember Me for a while now after getting it on sale for Steam earlier this year but only recently gotten around to play it. Can't necessarily speak for the rest of it but in terms of art work and color palette this might be the greatest I've come across in a video game. I even started using some of these pics as Desktop backgrounds.
![]() ![]() These are actual in game screens taken off my computer. In other news I bought a Watch Dogs voucher from Ebay last night for $43. The same ones that I'm guessing come with the $250 and up graphic cards as I did the same thing when Assasins Creed 4 came out, mainly in a panic move following the purchase of a second GTX 770 a week before they added AC4 to their bundle (got Arkham Orgins and Splinter Cell Blacklist). The voucher worked great but UPlay, the platform needed to activate it on PC (even with Steam) was shockingly having server issues so it wasn't until just now that I was able to get a download going. To be fair its been downloading close to my max speed at around 2.0 MBps (emphasis on MB not Mb) still I'm tired of EA and Ubisoft either avoiding Steam or adding random conditions to their Steam games. Anyway just figured I'd point out for anyone looking to get a decent discount on Watch Dogs for PC to search for Watch Dogs Nvidia Voucher on Ebay. If you're patient enough to bid you might get it anywhere from the mid $20's to the high $30's but being an impatient man myself I searched for people with reasonable 'Buy it Now' options. Either way kind of beats shelving out $60 on day 1 or waiting for it to go on sale. Quote:

i forgot why i never buy basketball games - its get boring quick since each possession is basically the same. its like repeating the same steps every 25 seconds. is that creed assassin game where it is set in colonials times good? i feel like i want to get into a game not madden but every time i try a new game (once a year) i get bored with it or its just hard to pick up since i only have a few hours max a week to play a game. |

Re: New Games on the Horizon (the video game thread)
I'm shocked to hear Dragon Age 2 wasn't well received. If you like the games for strategic game play, it has it in spades. You have to really think your way through many battles, which I didn't think was the case with Dragon Age Origins. Origins didn't demand much from a battlefield analysis perspective. As long as you had two tanks, an archer and a mage you came out on top of almost every battle. With 2, not the case.
I thought 2 was an upgrade.

Re: New Games on the Horizon (the video game thread)
Played Watchdogs for about an hour last night. Other than having difficulty remembering the right buttons due to using a PS3 controller wired as a 360 controller on my PC (I keep forgetting which buttons translate lol) it's pretty cool so far. Heard it's been having problems on PC though, which sucks. Also I'm not a big fan of how the cars handle, it's way too cartoony/arcadish for me. Definitely prefer GTA style handling over it. Other than that I like the whole hacking concept, haven't used guns too much yet so we'll see how that turns out.

Re: New Games on the Horizon (the video game thread)
Deciding to hold off on buying an XBox One to really only play Dead Rising 3 just paid HUGE DIVIDENDS.
![]() Dead Rising 3 PC gets a release date – in the Steam Summer Sale? | VG247 This game was the one reason I even entertained the idea of getting an XB1 on release day but I decided to cancel my preorder once it became apparent that the game would be extremely buggy on XB1. Now I get to play the game in glorious 1080p and 60fps at high to very high settings.

Re: New Games on the Horizon (the video game thread)
So I got a chance to try out Steams Streaming feature and was pretty impressed.
The TV in the background is my 42 inch Plasma thats hooked up to my desktop computer which is also hooked up to a 27 inch monitor not pictured above so in short the game is being displayed on 3 screens at once. The computer in the foreground is my 17 inch laptop. My desktop has 2 GTX 770's while my laptop has a 650m. For those who don't speak nerd my desktop computer is a high end BMW while my laptop gaming wise is a decent Honda Accord. Another way to describe the laptop is comfortably more powerful then a PS3/360 but a decent bit weaker than a PS4. For the most part I've been getting around 60 fps on my laptop however the audio is choppy so I just play the audio directly from desktop and put my laptop on mute (which kind of defeats the purpose of streaming but sometimes I prefer to play on my laptop since its right next to my bed). To control the game I use a controller hooked up to my laptop. The craziest part though is that my laptop is doing barely any work. Usually when I play games on my laptop installed directly to the hard drive it gets pretty hot. Typically around 80 degrees celsius which is pretty much the safe upper limit for GPU's. When streaming the games I noticed that my laptop was virtually the same temperature as when I'm using it for nothing more than trolling, I mean browsing the internets. Not only that but it was able to use the high end settings that only the desktop was capable of providing. Here is a super scientific picture to illustrate whats happening. ![]() The two people carrying the sofa are the two graphic cards in my desktop. The person sitting on top of the couch is my laptop's graphics card. I tried it out last night with Dishonored (pictured above), Mortal Kombat 9, Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, Far Cry 3, and Batman Arkham Orgins. Dishonored and Mortal Kombat did pretty good. Sleeping Dogs was solid until it crashed. Far Cry 3 had trouble getting above 15fps at the title screen, and even though Batman Arkham Orgins was getting 60 fps the picture was very choppy. Still pretty cool stuff for a technology thats in its infancy.
