Re: 2011 Draft Thread Round 1

Um, I'd guess if we stay at 41 it's pretty high. But who knows for sure

Date night with the wife tomorrow so after around 6:30ish I won't be paying much attention to the draft. I'll get alerts from people on the scene and may watch a little bit on my phone, but for the most part I'll be out of commission tomorrow night

Well I got to say that Kerrigans a good pick in the Clay Matthews mould. I think it'll be interesting to see how he does in the 3-4. We clearly didn't want Quinn or Gabbert, and this guy is a good safe prospect. I like this pick, now we just need OL WR and DL and our draft's looking good.

Apparently Mike wasn't as high on Blaine as any of us thought. And we did want Quinn, took a gamble and it didn't pan out as expected.

The time between picks really stands out when you're there. Goodell looked bored out of his mind

I don't know though, I feel like the Skins brass were like "Lets trade down, if Quinn's there, then we take him if not then we're just as happy with Kerrigan."

I noticed though that Quinn isn't that good of a tackler (something RK is) and that he isn't that fluid in his hips to drop into coverage (supposedly he looked worse than RK did when he dropped into coverage at his pro day) plus Kerrigan didn't have the character or health issues that Quinn did, the more and more I look at this pick, the more I like it and the more I'm happy we didn't get Quinn.

Now as for day 2, I really really hope we do NOT draft Kaepernick.
Any potential of us drafting Bowers? Titus Young? Trading up for Mallett?

Well to be fair pretty much everyone thats evaluated the draft has said that the suspension from the NCAA is not an accurate reflection on Robert Quinn's character. In fact Quinn is actually regarded as a high character player by most scouts and personnel. On top of that the brain tumor is benign.

The real argument for Kerrigan over Quinn is production. In 2009 when Quinn last played, Quinn posted 11 sacks. Kerrigan posted 12. Also in 2008 when both were sophomores Kerrigan got 7 sacks to go with his 56 tackles. Quinn on the other hand got only 2 sacks to go with 34 tackles.

In the year Quinn was unfairly suspended Kerrigan posted 13 sacks.

So at the very least in terms of raw numbers, and not knowing situations, surrounding personel, matchups, opponents, etc Kerrigan had the better numbers.

Knowing what I know now though we couldn't really have gone wrong with either. Still both teams picking at 14 and 16 now have great bookends/OLB's. St. Louis with Long and Quinn, and us with Orakpo and Kerrigan.

You have poor judgement skills. What is wrong with Kaepernick? NOTHING. Dalton will be gone by 41 and we will draft Kaepernick either at 49 or trade down to get him later if he slips. Watch. PS. Colt Brennan sucks.

If there was nothing wrong with Kaep he would've been picked by now.

There is something wrong with him. He went to Nevada instead of the SEC or other power conference. Have you seen the video and film on him?!?

Kaepernick is a wasted pick when we can get someone like Rodney Hudson or Wisnewski to protect a decent QB of the future, like Mallett or the guys for next years class.

When I think of us drafting Kaepernick I think of us drafting Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas that year, wasted picks!

The sad part is you've actually made yourself think that its true. Who would ever compare two mediocre position players like them with Kaepernick who is 6'5" and has freakish athletic ability to go with great mobility? I'm not saying he is a day 1 starter. However I think he can be a good quarterback for us and saying he is a wasted pick is absurd!

Totally agree, I WANT A CENTER, and I dont want to pick up one in the 7th round or some UFA. Grab a high tier center if he is available. Rabach has to go. Our interior line needs help, and center would be a perfect position to address. I dont want Mallet or any of these other suspect QBs. The next QB we draft needs to be a stud, no more Patrick Ramseys and Jason Campbells to waist 3 years on trying to figure out if they got IT or not.

Roddy White's initial reaction to the Falcons picking Jones on Twitter:
“Well we got Julio Jones. I’m excited."

Roddy White after seeing what the Falcons gave up:
“Well, I was wrong. We give up our draft.’’

Well I mean Quinn was their preference but it wasn't like they were like "Oh crap, Quinn's gone now what do we do"

It was "Let's trade down and get an extra pick because odds are Quinn will be there at 16 with Cleveland and San Fran passing on him. And if he's not there Kerrigan should be there and we're going to have an extra 2nd to work with"

So just found out Paea is a Nose Tackle in a 3-4. Unless Dalton is there I want Paea at 41.

Re: 2011 Draft Thread Round 1

Another fun moment from tonight, well I'm not sure I'd call it "fun" per se, getting practically run over by Mike Pouncey's buddies as they find out he's talking to the Dolphins "Mike's on the phone! Mike's on the phone! He's on the phone! He's on the phone! He's on the phone! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! He's on the phone!"...bullrush backstage
