Re: f...gibbs
Yeah, my bad about that. My apologies FRLPG. Just want to throw that out there...
That's a little out of character for me to say something like that.

I'll grant I am super wigged out on this but I really feel we caged the dogs yesterday when the exact opposite was needed. I know there are stats that argue against that but I am going on what I saw and how it felt at the time. It felt like a roll over to me. Maybe in the end it wasn't, I am slowly coming around, but I also know that on this board we do a lot of rationalizing. Hell i am usually solidly in the ratiionalizing camp, leading they way really. But here I am not. I think our coaches didn't let our players play. It makes me mad. |

Re: f...gibbs
Since I don't feel like sorting through the full six pages of this ridiculously named thread, I'll just say that from where I was sitting the problem was with the players yesterday and not the coaches. The defense reverted to 2006 form and allowed the Giants to pick up something like 13 first downs in the second half, many of them coming on third down. The Giants stacked the box to stop the run and/or pressure Campbell in the second half and the Redskins were unable to find an identity. They often threw the ball on 1st down, ran it on 2nd, faced 3rd and long and could not convert. Plus, with the defense unable to get off the field and the offense unable to get any first downs (in their 3 or 4 attempts prior to the last drive) the defense was basically on the field the entire 2nd half.
Randle El did all he could in those final minutes and Jason actually came up with a few clutch throws (though he missed Moss on a deep one again, which is looking like a theme now) and they almost overcame all their many mistakes (holding, false start, Casey get your head in the game man!) and the pressure that the Giants put on to at least send it to OT. Unlike the many on the first page of this thread at least I don't have a problem with the play calls (at least not the last three). That first play was one that Sellers scored 7 or 8 touchdowns on in 2005 and after that you would think the Skins could pound it in running off left tackle. Ideally you'd want Portis in there in that situation, but the line got beaten plain and simple. Then you have an inexperienced QB who rushed the offense on that last play, but that is what you get with a guy who has started 9 or 10 games. Jason will learn from that and the whole team will learn from this game. I think us fans can also learn something about the NFL. We, as well as the team from what it looked like, all looked past the Giants. The Giants, however, came to play yesterday and even in the first half I thought it was pretty clear they had more fire than the Skins did. Yeah, the Skins were up 17-3, but barring a bunch of drops by Burress and some stupid turnovers that could have been different. The Skins should have taken advantage of that situation, but in the second half the Giants made the plays that they missed in the first half and the Skins offense could not do anything. The pass coverage, which has worried me for a while now, broke down when a QB actually made some accurate throws and WRs/TEs actually made catches. The first two weeks guys did not make those plays (i.e. Chambers dropped passes, McNabb's poor throws) and yesterday the Giants did. The Skins need to figure some things out before Detroit comes to town because they throw it all over the place and the Skins need to cover and to get some pressure on the QB, which they did not do at all in the second half yesterday. Still, don't bail on the team so quickly! What are you, Eagles fans? Come on, f...Joe Gibbs is the most treasonous, heretical thing I could imagine. F you if you are going to jump ship so quickly. This is a team with a young QB, who will be good but is still learning. It is a defense with holes that were exposed yesterday, and a team that is down TWO of its top O-Lineman. It was also a team who probably did not really come to the stadium with as much fire as the Giants. That was the Giants season on the line yesterday and they knew that, and they played like they knew that. From the open that defense was flying around out there and you could tell they had their backs to the wall. Welcome to the NFL. Sorry for my long response, but I had to put that out there. Thanks to anyone who read it all the way through.

Re: f...gibbs
its very simple. lack of execution, and the players lost the game. i really had no problem with the play calling. if Betts doesnt stumble, the game goes to over time. its anyones guess what happens. but our defense was on the field way too long in the second half. we should have had Portis in, and tried to run the ball straight down their throats

Re: f...gibbs
and sometimes people forget we have practically a rookie starting at qback, and 2 offensive lineman hurt. coach Gibbs does need to do a better job making his halftime adjustments. for someone that used to be a master at this, he seems to struggle with it now

Re: f...gibbs
I am not sure that it is half time adjustments as much as it is an unnatural inability to deviate at all from a game plan. He seems so concerned, so uptight about risk that we simply do any and everything to mitigate it and it seems we often mitigate ourselves into loses. I am terrified we are going to do this all year. At some point, for the sake of learning and growth, we need to let the offense go and either sink or swim. It will never be a potent offense until it gets is chance. I am convinced it can be. We have play makers. Imagine what Indy would be like if they simply never let Manning throw the ball much in his first couple of years. I am not saying Campbelll can be Manning but that offense has an identity that helps it win games. They expect and are expected to score points. You never see them just sit on a lead. A lot of that comes from how they view themselves and confidence. We can't get confidence playing this way. If it frustrates us...imagine how frustrated the players are.

It's only one game. We can...should rebound against the Lions, and the coaches and players can look long and hard at how we lost this game. |

Re: f...gibbs
Whatever...I hate when we're conservative, but it's not like we were on the field long enough in the second half to be conservative or not. We just didn't get a first down. Plain and simple. Had we actually had the opportunity, and played it too safe Id agree, but he players never even gave the coaches a chances to be conservative.

Re: f...gibbs
Conservative play calling was NOT the problem. That's what you do when you are up 17 - 3 at the half. You rely on your defense, and you don't commit turnovers. This loss is TOTALLY on the team (defense mostly) -- not the coaches.

Say what you will about the defense allowing 3rd down conversions, missing tackles, etc... THEY WERE ON THE FIELD THE ENTIRE SECOND HALF!!! We have to be better on offense. When I think of how easily we could be 0-3, I don't have much confidence in this team. Gibbs needs to wake up and smell the offense.

Re: f...gibbs
Yeah I blame gibbs for not having CP on the field. You know he can make this mistake once and I'll let him. But if he does it again I'll still love him. hopefully he's learned his lesson. HAIL!!!

too old, too slow and way too conservative.....thanks to inept coaching, another losing season looms ahead-the Skins won't recover- they got a physical beat down in the second half which will linger througout the season.....watch all the other teams as they will copy the Giants 2nd half game plan and physically kick the Skins ass the rest of the season.....you never sit on a lead in the NFL-what a waste of offensive talent....you had the Giants on the ropes and you come out in the second half and every time you get the ball it's 3 plays and a punt- Bad Coaching lost this game-and don't get me started on Williams/Gibbs letting Antonio Pierce go......Giants will again win both games against the Skins...the G-Men in their stadium against the Skins....why even bother to show up with a Gibbs coached team.......Snyder better Man Up and face the truth...another dissapointing year, more heartbreak and more fans lost.......line up Cowher now and let Gibbs go back to NASCAR & Williams who apparently thinks all defensive players are interchangeable go torture another team and fans.....
